On the subject of books, they can actually be a lot more dangerous than you think, especially older books. Almost every book printed prior to the 1970’s has lead in the ink, the worst offenders are glossy pages as they use more ink. The maximum safe daily limit of lead exposure is 15ppm, some old books with yellow or orange ink have up to 28000ppm. They’re mainly a problem if you eat the pages, but very old books create a lot of lead dust, so be careful when handling them. Even today you’re not entirely safe. There’s a chemical called BPA which is often found in receipts, plane and movie tickets. It’s a hormone disrupter, which can cause infertility, diabetes and obesity. In general don’t eat books or receipts, and wash your hands after touching them.
