Most people who do own pigeons hold them in high regard, they just aren't popular pets. Which is weird considering they are easily the easiest bird to take care of. People seem to prefer parrots though which are arguably inferior as they are more difficult to look after and have ridiculously long lifespans.

Wouldn't say any is better/worse, just different. Parrots are great bc they live so long- they're a life long companion and a big commitment- while pigeons are great bc they're so low maintenance and are resistant to most common bird diseases.

@@edim108Id say pigeons are best for unexperienced owners, but for somebody that is willing to dedicate time, education and energy to their pet (and I mean a lot of it) parrots make amazing companions.

Birds are underrated pets, especially pigeons and doves! Diamond doves are tiny, cute, and usually have great temperments.

The fact that he took his fear and educated himself is something I respect and suggest everyone does, I did it for my fear of spiders I’m still afraid of certain species but enjoy learning about them and can catch them in my room now without being paralyzed in fear.

I did that with wasps but I'm still absolutely terrified of them, to the point where I refuse to open any windows, even during high summer. I'd rather cook than be trapped in a small apartment with a wasp :l I've considered writing a rhyming short-story from the 3rd person perspective of a wasp (as in written in 3rd person but limited to observations the wasp could make and in whichever way it would perceive them). Yeah... it's worth a try. It might force a level of empathy for them, I'm otherwise prevented from utilizing, due to my fear-based bias, lol.

Fun Fact when he said the Nicobar Pigeon is the closest thing we have to a present day Dodo, he wasn't kidding as believe it or not the famous extinct Dodo was actually a type of flightless pigeon

Pigeons make for great entry level birds if anyone is interested in getting into bird ownership. Dont make the mistake of starting with a full blown parrot, theyre super high mentainence, you can get a bird thats just as smart and lovey by getting a pigeon. Also you can pet pigeons more than you can pet parrots.

Frederick Skinner in WWII came up with an anti ship bomb steered by three pigeons. He trained them to recognise and peck at images of enemy warships, then battle conditioned them and they’d go in the bomb. The weapon never saw combat, luckily for the pigeons, but they were working on Project Pigeon for over two years.

Ah, I used to have about 30 pigeons when I was younger, but I was so devoted to them that my mom gave them away because I was doing bad in school due to them. Still, it broke my heart! hahaha. Pigeons are incredible pets. I loved watching them soar and circle around my house. They'd venture to distant towns, and when they returned, sometimes they'd bring along lost pigeons, mistaking our flock for theirs. It was like a fun game for us kids, each new pigeon meant someone else lost out, a kind of pigeon 'war' among us kids.

@Sami_J92 Жыл бұрын
@@king_koby9591 Pigeons are highly social birds. To attract them, it's best to have some of your own. They will observe the safety of your pigeons around you and you can entice them by throwing food for your birds to eat, making them feel secure and encouraging them to join. Often, special nets are needed to catch them off guard while they eat, or they may simply follow your birds into their house. If you don't have any pigeons, it can be quite challenging. However, an old bird trap can also work well. Simply scatter some food and set up traps to catch them, ensuring that they are nearby or the food is visible to them while they are flying by, make sure you are out of their sight. However, this method may prove more effective in hunting as it involves baiting and waiting (without the traps), making it rather challenging to just catch them, they are very smart after all.

Hi, I live in Turkey and we have a lot and I mean a lot of pigeons here and even some of my friends keep them as pets and its not like 1 or 2 or 5, it is more like 15 - 20 or in some cases even more than that and they teach them to do somersault etc, even around my house when I take my dog out for a walk or even out side of my window I see a lot of pigeons landing and chilling, but, I am not going to say it is wrong, but; There is a nest right outside of my garden where the pigeon live and even had babies and it was not like 3 or 4 sticks, it was real deal nest and it is even still there, just wanted to say that, have a wonderful day :)

Kereru are huge, when they go swooping by it's like a plane flying overhead. They make for good eating too, if a little rubbery. I've never seen a drunk one but they did like to leave colossal-sized dumps on my porch at my old house.
