I'm a Customs Broker here in the US. Let me tell you how much drama this "maybe we will, maybe we won't" tariff policy causes. Every time he changes his mind, both CBP and we service providers have to patch systems that prepare customs entry documentation. These regular changes to policy cause nightmares from a planning and process perspective. This is going to be a long azz 4 years.

That’s exactly what will happen. We saw what companies did during COVID. Instead of a justifiable increase in their price equal or a little more than the additional cost, many took the excuse to pump their prices well over that and pocket the profit. It’s the same reason trickle down economics and cutting corporate taxes were always stupid. Both sides of the supply and demand curve are self-interested, which is why balanced capitalism works so well. However, in an age where many industries have matured and can no longer compete on their product or prices, they find other methods of pumping their numbers to meet shareholder demands, mainly consolidation through mergers/aquisitions and lobbying for deregulation. However, they aren’t picky.

Let's also be honest. One of the big reasons the US imports so much Canadian oil is because they sell it at a discount because of the Canadan regulations and costs restricting the construction of refineries in Canada. So they sell it at a discount because they have more oil than they have the capacity to refine, and they are geographically isolated to ship it overseas without making it immensely expensive (also they really didn't invest in pipelines to their coasts).

9:27 I don’t agree w this at all. Corporations do not want tariffs. It causes chaos, which is bad for business. Yes, after some time, they will increase prices and gross profits. But it also requires giant shifts in supply chain strategies that can take years to adjust. The stuff on the water right now? The importers are going to eat it and make no money. The only ppl that support tariffs are bureaucrats who see US consumer spending as something the government can and should control.

As a Canadian I pray that we start to refine all of our natural gas and Oil at the very least we could then afford to have an energy and resource embargo against America. BRICS would be a more trustworthy trading partner at this point.

Other countries are the only hope the world has now of stopping this free fall of the world into absolute chaos . If Canada and others flinch and capitulate for short term comfort, it will only lead to long term subjugation of your countries to the whims of mine. That’s all well and good when America is respecting and defending our allies, treaties, and trade agreements, but if we aren’t going to, then trusting us with that continued power would be foolish.

Tariffs will help the US in trade. So many countries place restrictions on US goods, while we allow their goods to come in without hindrances. We may have to pay more in the short term but it will benefits us long term. We had tarries during Trump’s first term and we had a good economy.
