@Devin Brown there is in a society that frequently sidelines, stereotypes, or "others" you, where you have to really think about your safety before going outside. I've been screamed at for holding another man's hand a lot. Just holding hands. I and many many others gave been told that while someone has no problem with us in principle, that they'd really like to pretend we don't exist. A couple of trans friends have been assaulted more times than I can count. Children are often considered "not ready" to know about LGBTQ+ people, but it's fine to foist expectations that they will be straight and cisgender. Those things are not small. There are a great many more resources you could learn from that are far more articulate than I am. Perhaps you could consider that there might be something more than your internal monologue and beliefs before making assertions.

Some places even tell you to run instead of fight back. Basically, you’re not a cop. You don’t have any more authority than the person you’re supposed to be dealing with. You are a liability to the company if you harm someone while working as a security guard. You can and will be fired if you get physical trying to help people.

Because the majority of "straight men hating gay men" is derived from their own personal issues with homosexuality (i.e. they are in the closet, they feel shame from some other areas in their life, they have low self esteem in their own sexuality or feel threatened by gay men, etc.). (Usually perpetrators were not born in Canada) I know more then a few gay men who came to Canada with their familys recently and now that they are out they aren't safe from their own family. In some ways and in some places it's way better then the 60s but it's way less safe than 10 or 20 years ago . I meet a little old lady in Florida a few months ago and she surprised me by bringing it up in conversation. She has friends in Toronto and was worried for me and my boyfriend. It seems to me from personal experience it's way less safe.

+Cameron Davies Well, probably, being straight helps there. If you're gay and wear a pink shirt, all of a sudden -in the minds of these ignorant fools- you're making a statement, making propaganda for "the gay lifestyle" I've been harassed for just saying I found some guy handsome. Suddenly I was being "all in their face with my sexuality, of course it's okay to be gay, but you don't have to keep confronting people with it." Of course, if you're straight and say a girl is beautiful, that's a whole different issue... The rules are not the same for stright or LGBT people. We've still got a long way to go.

@Biswalt8 жыл бұрын
ALEX Jime I'm straight as shit and my favorite color is purple. If seeing a dude in a pink shirt makes you want to attack them because you think it's gay then you should start wondering why seeing a gay guy has you so uncomfortable. I used to play in a band and occassionally we would gig at a gay bar, and dudes would hit on me, and you know what? I didn't get irrationally upset about it. I didn't attack them. I was flattered that they were attracted to me but not interested in doing anything with them. So I'd say, "oh thanks, but you don't need to buy me a drink, I'm straight". And the world kept turning and I didn't worry that I'd become gay. I'm not sexually attracted to dudes and so if a guy offers to buy me a drink or says I've got beautiful eyes that's fine. You've got to have SERIOUS issues with your own sexual identity (and I'm not even saying homophobe is secretly a gay self loather). But something, somewhere, is REALLY fucked up if you can't see a dude in a pink shirt and not freak out.

This was a classic security response by institutions that spend millions on the subject matter. Not only did security fail, in other situations the crowd itself can use excessive force on the perpetrator which is why billions are spent in part on security. The purpose to create a safe environment for everyone including those who have to exercise self-help measures. Wonderful video.
@shazam857210 жыл бұрын
First off, that word "homophobe" really has to go, because it sounds childish and stupid (no wonder it's a favorite word for Ana.) "Homophobe" merely implies fear of gays. The words applicable here are *bigot* and *cowardly thug*, plain and simple. This man's problem is a deep-seated *hatred* (not just fear) of gays and deep-seated cowardice that drives him to act violently against those that he's sure he can overpower, like the smaller person he attacked in this video. He's simply the filth and embarrassment of humanity, and it's only logically obvious that his hatred goes far beyond just gays.
@SeanTheOriginal10 жыл бұрын
Can you prove he ISN'T afraid of homosexuals?
@IamSpacedad10 жыл бұрын
"Phobia" has a non-clinical usage of describing prejudice, discrimination, and hatred. This should be doubly obvious given the existence of terms like 'xenophobia.' Do yourself a favor and stop playing pointless semantics games, especially since homophobes keep trying to claim they don't 'fear' gay people to try to wash their hands of being labeled for their bigotry without doing anything to change that bigotry.

@darklyresplendentone9 жыл бұрын
Exactly...! I couldn't have said it better myself. If cops are paid to "protect and serve"... Why did they wait for a group of bystanders to step in and prevent a hate crime from taking place? The airport cops could have acted WAY sooner. But of course, they didn't... Because if it isn't a bomb or an assignment from Top Brass, they'll just let someone else handle it...... Police work at its finest. It's the same in every state.

UGH, ..I don't want to be that guy, but I liked TYT, they're just rubbing me the wrong way these days. Being loud isn't against the law, being homophobic isn't against the law. No one knew it would become violent, and they likely just gave the guy his distance. The guy in the pink was recording also and not only was he recording, he followed the obvious drunk guy over to the cowboy as if that would resolve the situation. Not excusing his homophobia, but honestly...get your damn cameras out of people faces. It always turns violent . I wish the panelist on TYT didn't have their own shows now, because I feel that they're always on a soap box and always louder than they have to be, and turning everything into hyperbole.

"Being loud isn't against the law,..." Being drunk in public is.
@tty2310 жыл бұрын
GothicIntellect BrotherAlpha fair enough, but you see this often where people start pointing cameras in other peoples faces, it incites violence where walking away is more advisable. He was clearly drunk, I think most peoples reaction is to back away from drunk people... It comes off that I'm defending the asshole, but I'm really just annoyed with my new media news sources lately. "The fame" has gone to their heads. I don't believe the TSA are suppose to respond to irritate people, but instead call in the actual cops, who were there at the end of the incident. Unknown if they were already at the scene, because he showed up off screen. People's reactions change when people become violent. The Cowboy turned away from the guy initially, he wanted no part in what he was saying...until the drunk guy hit him, at which point every bystander within leaping distance reacted.
@jjdude553110 жыл бұрын
Being loud isn't against the law but being rowdy in an airport is more than enough to have a TSA agent at least step in and attempt to defuse the situation which was clearly not under control at the time. When TSA jumps on people for the smallest of things, something like this should not be ignored.
@larryjohn695110 жыл бұрын
GothicIntellect you do know exactly where the officer was at the incident. Just because someone is being annoying doesn't mean it's going to get violent. People behave like that all the time and it doesn't end in violence. People are just bashing cops regardless of what they do...
