Many Irishmen and women were forced to become different people and fight back hard against the brutal invaders, Ireland's nearest neighbor who for over 800 years inflicted great losses, and starvation, drove people from their homes and land and stole from all around them. I remember seeing posters invoking the heroes of 1916 and the Tan War asking people to vote against the Lisbon Treaty . The Irish should not be ashamed of their own history.

It's a song about the civil war not 1916. Dinny Lacey was the only man to be killed out of all the men mentioned.

Song not directly related to 1916 at all. Nobody who challenged British rule here is anything but a politically motivated patriot. Be they right or wrong. They were a product of the Empires imperialism.
