The movie version has very cleaned up/polished vocals that lends itself more to a pop/mainstream sound. Original broadway versions are pretty raw and full of character. It's not about being pitch perfect unless the play focuses on that. Hairspray is a lovable hot mess and this performance is amazing. xD

I do not understand all the negative comments on this video? Yeah the video quality isn't great because it was like 15 years ago... but this was an awesome performance, and all 4 of them sounded fantastic! Just because it doesn't sound exactly like the movie soundtrack doesn't mean it is bad - on the contrary, they're breathing life into the characters.

I get everyone has tastes and it's fair to like the movie more (I like the movie Tracy a bit more tbh) but please understand live musical performances :p Matthew Morrison is just beautiful playing Link.

The point with this musical is that it's meant to be diverse, and people have different singing styles, dancing styles, and acting styles. Tracy was written like that, so were all the other characters.

People just don't have a clue, this production of hairspray is one of john waters favorite adaptions of hairspray, it shows all of the values and it includes them in songs, unlike the movie where it totally took out all the great songs, it annoys me when the people who claim to be "musical theatre fans" only say they are because of the movie, they don't have a clue, it makes me laugh so hard 😂😂
