Monteiro has been deserving this kind of win for awhile. He is a blue collar not extremely gifted player but works pretty hard. Lots of guys who are way more talented than him didn't stick around the top 100 like Monteiro did. Well done!

From these highlights it looked as if Tsitipas was having the same old problem - getting no penetration on his backhand. So many of them seemed to be landing around the service line.

Wow! Was not expecting that! The power of underestimating an opponent was a learning lesson for Tsitsipas . Although Tiago played great and was very aggressive, Tsitsipas came out flat. His shots were short for the most part and he did not adjust or come to the net more when he needed to. When you do not go all out and you hold back and the other player does, and does not hold back, the other player wins. Performance inconsistencies along with not playing fearless and not vetting your opponents ahead of time have been and will continue to be the reason why Tsitsipas struggles and has not won more tournaments. He struggles always with left handers and I do not think has done enough to change or adjust his play against them. There was talk of Tsitsipas being the favorite to win this tournament and others on clay. I guess that talk was silenced very quickly seeing today's results. Disappointing once again. Let's see if he can regroup for Italy and Roland Garros again

Unlucky for tsitsipas to play indoors clay. Also this court is very small compared to the other ones which makes returning even harder when you face an opponent which is serving very well.

Monteiro has always been a dangerous player since 2016... he can take it to the very best against a multitude of players of different eras. It's just rare for him to stay fit and healthy to help him fulfill his weapon-armed potential and when he's well, he really goes for it and he's finally got another huge scalp. One of the best performances we've seen from him and living up to his dangerous floater reputation once more.
