As soon as I heard the words " I don't intend" and saw that massive root all I thought here we go.🤣🤣 I've got a big honeysuckle I took out my garden, in a cascade style,that was going down the tip. A touch thicker than yours. They grow like weeds, backbud like crazy. Yours has certainly got potential.

@TheBonsaiGarden2 жыл бұрын
That’s some nice material there. I imagine in 5 years time you will have a collection of really nicely developing trees but nowhere to move in your garden 😂 Or at your parents…😂 Lonicera / shrubby honeysuckle is not a tree that I have personally worked with but if this is the same thing Darren George (GroBonsai) did a video on some time back, be careful or just be aware as there appears to be a direct correlation or link between roots and corresponding branching, so removal of roots can cause branches to die off. 😮
@TonysBonsai2 жыл бұрын
That's interesting information thanks mate. I'm going to go and check that video out. I've watched most of his stuff, but I forget most of it. I hope to have a nice collection in a few years as you say, and with so many trees I expect my learning journey to be expedited a fair bit too.

Ash is an interesting tree for bonsai. I have a few, but none of them are really inspiring me yet. I tend to prefer the wiring and pruning above the root work, but when I get to work on a tree like this with no idea what's down there, it is exciting.

Hornbeam are tough trees, but to give them the best chance I would say that it is definitely better to hold off until you begin to see signs that the buds are just beginning to swell.
