i just realized something : if 4k@25 superview reads 3840x2160 pixels from the sensor with 20 squares verically, the 4k@30fps that has only 12.5 squares vertically is cropped by a factor of 20/12.5=1.6 in order to get a smaller field of view so it uses only 2400x1350 pixels from the sensor and the image is scaled up to 3840x2160, it should thus have much lower image quality as far as details is concerned when compared to 4k superview that uses all pixels from the sensor.

I'm not an expert but I think superview should be compared with 4:3 resolutions because sensor is 4:3. in 16:9 resolutions, in order to have a not deformed image, upper and lower zones of the cmos are always cropped. just the slight horizontal crop shows a real loss of quality (maybe this crop can smooth the fisheye effect). for example, 4:3 resolution is mostly used to shoot VR 360 videos. superview just combines 4:3 and 16:9 spreading 4:3 resolution on a 16:9 screen. The real mistery to me is how and why thieye chooses to cut lateral pixels in certain resolutions and different fps. It's usefull to be able to change fov but a dedicated fov menu would has been better..

the 1920x1440 60 fps does not have the same fov as all other 4:3 video mode (should have 20 squares vertically but it only has 18.5), did you move the camera by accident for this shot or the distance from the lens to the paper is absolutely the same ? ( the 1920x1440 30fps have the 20 squares vertically it is weird)

camera was on a tripod so you can see just very little movements because of shot button pushing. 1920x1440 60fps looks to have a few of contour cutted. sorry for my english, i hope you understand what i mean.

also hd 16:9 120fps has a bigger fov than 60 or 30fps. i don't know why, maybe because of EIS.

i think it is because of limited processing power, if you want high frame rate the fastest way to read pixels on a sensor is to crop 1:1 ( 1 pixel on the video=1 pixel from the sensor) the other typical ways of reading the sensor is either to do pixel/line skipping (read 1 pixel every n pixels = worst quality) or pixel merging (read n pixels, average them, and output this average as a one video pixel = best quality) or a combination of both, that is why, for example, the samsung nx1 has the best 4k video quality : it downscales 24 mpixels (16:9 crop)from the 28m pixel 4:3 sensor in to 8m pixels for 4k video. i don't think action cams has enough computing power to do such thing, they must do pixel skipping).

Your are right about Soc power . Sony IMX117 doesn't skip lines or colums. It merges it. Also it have modes without merging. Just crop the picture. All modes of Sony IMX117 drive.google.com/file/d/0B4tyaJWIqCb_OGttV2poNDJFSW8/view Not from Sony.com . They removed this document about year ago.

i think the eis was turned on, which resulted in shorter fov in 1080.

Looking at the 4K options, if (assuming) super view is 170° what is it when not using super view, 150° or 155° perhaps?
@livekaloo7 жыл бұрын
I don't know sorry but you can approximately calculate it with some math and trigonometry. distance between center and lens is 8cm and each square is 0,8x0,8cm.
@amanieux8 жыл бұрын
did you also look at the bitrates for each video mode ?
@livekaloo7 жыл бұрын
i didn't, sorry. maybe in the next video..
@amanieux7 жыл бұрын
+livekaloo you could just add them in the video description, if you still have the files on the micro-sd card, you just do a right click on a video file then "propertires/detail" it shows the bitrate.

what are the dimensions of the paper and what was is the distance from camera to paper ? thanks
@livekaloo8 жыл бұрын
Paper A4 and 8cm between the center and the lens
@amanieux8 жыл бұрын
so each little square is 0.8cmx0.8cm ? (a4 is 21x29.7 cm and there seems to be about 36x24 squares)
@livekaloo8 жыл бұрын
0,8x0,8

livekaloo thanks, do you happen to know the distance between the front of the lens and the sensor so we can compute the angle ? i know the sensor is way back like 4 mm from the back of the action cameras

you're welcome but, sorry, i'd like to know it too

Id say thank you for this info. oh and also be aware of easily broken case of this camera kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnyvcqeJfdiXp5I you can see it broke 1st time opening it! and i have that too 100 fps is zoomed in as heck!
@livekaloo8 жыл бұрын
thank you dude, did you raplace it? i'm searching for a case (not waterproof) but i'm not sure about measures compatibility. also external charger was hard to find, I brought a sj4000 charger and modified it so now thieye batteries enter in the charger (voltage is the same).
@PruikkiRacing8 жыл бұрын
Well the case is broken so im waiting to hear back from the Gearbest support, lets hope for the best .Oh wow, thanks for the tip, gotta get same charger and Mod it too then. Cheers!
