The emotions!!! You're so good at conveying how everyone feels!! Legolas is kinda angry for a little but then he just accepts this as what g has to do, bilbo looks so tired and pissed off, Gimli is so in love!!! It's amazing!!

So first things first, I love the idea of this Au, and I love this animatic, and if you don’t end up finishing this or changing anything that’s fine. That said, I have some criticism on this piece that has been sitting in the back of my head for awhile now. I’ve been a fan of both the LOTR fandom and Hadestown for a very long time, and in the case of Hadestown this goes back before it was being Workshopped for broadway. While I feel that Thilbo works EXCELLENTLY for the roles of Hades and Persephone, I feel that Gimli being Orpheus and Legolas being Eurydice might have been the wrong choice. While I think that Frodo and Samwise would have worked better as Eurydice and Orpheus (because parallels), I also think the Gimli and Legolas could work, but only if their roles were reversed. Legolas is better suited for Orpheus because (despite appearances) he’s much better suited for roughing it on the surface than Gimli would be. Of the two he would also be the one who is less likely to get bogged down by materialistic things like money or houses. While this side of the wood elves isn’t really seen in any of the movies, in the hobbit there are a LOT of references to the fact that they fucking love to party, and love getting wrecked ( it’s actually how the dwarves escaped in the books, as the guards got drunk off their asses) Gimli on the other hand is much more concerned about how they are going to survive, even if he can be a little naive about the way of going about it. In the first movie when he suggests going through the mines, it’s because (despite the fact that he hasn’t been there in quite a long time) he genuinely thinks that it would be the better option. He also shows this side of himself when he gets concerned about going to Galadriels place as he honestly thinks that the elves would string him up alive.

the other ghost girl oh wow! What a wonderful and well thought out comment! Thank you, but I will be honest, I thought about all of these things when making these. Even the idea of using Frodo and Samwise because you’re right, it would be an almost perfect parallel. However, I decided I wanted to use Gimli and Legolas because of personal and biased affection of the two. And while I agree that they would work switched especially with the argument you made, I believe I may have a different view of Orpheus and Eurydice as characters that led me to the conclusion I made. You see, in the musical Euridice is the one portrayed as capable and down to earth with Orpheus having his head in the clouds and caring about only his music and his wife. This ties in to how the lotr books portray these characters, as gimli is often described as a poetic and romantic dwarf, moving Galadriel with his words and being described as having good manners for a dwarf. On the other hand, while yes, legolas‘ people are known to drink and party, his character is shown to be different from other elves as much as gimli is different from the other dwarves. Being more ready to rough it up and being less delicate. And let’s be honest, I really don’t see Legolas of all people singing a song so beautiful it could move death itself. Gimli, could. Thank you! I hope this helped you to understand my thought process here!

Oh! And one more thing! Gimli is canonically less materialistic than Legolas, I reference their time with Galadriel, as he asks only for a strand of her hair to remember her while the rest of the company get things that are much, much more helpful. That ole sap
