Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), animation.
TLC, Is a chromatography technique for analyzing mixtures by separating the compounds in the mixture. TLC can be used to help determine the number of components in a mixture, the identity of compounds, and the purity of a compound.
During chromatography, a mobile phase (eluent) distributes the compounds present in a mixture over a stationary phase (adsorbent).

Why do the "molecules" not start at the same line for the strong wind?

The stationary phase of TLC is polar in nature due to silanol functional group (hydroxy functional groups) of silica gel. The sample with a polar functional group will have more affinity for a polar part of chromatography system i.e. to the stationary phase. The same principle applies to nonpolar part also. Nonpolar functional groups will run/move more fastly in nonpolar mobile phase. The simple principle "Likes like like" applies here.

The principle of paper chromatography is partition of sample between two liquids. ie. stationary phase and mobile phase. Whereas In TLC separations due to adsorption phenomenon.
