This is one of my favorite videos on the internet ever. What you said about how we find ourselves in Peter Pan resonated so much with me. I love the 1953 film and the 2003 adaptation was one of my FAVORITE movies when I was younger. Peter Pan means so much to me and he means a lot to other people too. We all have that voice in our heads and our hearts telling us not to grow up. And we all want to listen to it, but we all know the reality. Peter Pan and Disney in general I think gives us ways to "grow up", but not alone. It doesn't have to be scary. We have our imaginations and our courage and our favorite characters by our sides to cheer us along.

Honestly, the ONCE version did a great job of showing his dark side, even if it didn't follow the story exactly. The 2003 version is probably my favorite because of how it has so many different elements of the original story. You should definitely check out "the new adventures of peter and wendy" though. It has a modern update on Peter and captures his childlike side with not wanting to grow up but also shows his jerk side as well. definitely an interesting take and is actually pretty true to the source

I seriously fangirled when I saw him in the video for this week!!! I adore Andrew and Hali so much, been following them for years. I had the pleasure to meet Andrew at Disneyland as Peter Pan 5 years ago on my birthday, and that was the first time I ever saw Peter Pan in the park and he was amazing at it! And the fact that he loves Peter Pan so much just made it all even better. The version of Peter Pan I enjoy the most is Andrew Ducote to be honest, and then Walt Disney Peter Pan, and then Hook. Again Andrew is my favorite, he truly captured the essence of Peter Pan and also got to marry Wendy ;) and make all of our dreams come true.

I love Peter Pan, but I think my absolute favorite adaption of him was on OUAT. They really mixed it up by making him a villain and it was surprisingly an amazing twist to see.

Hook is the best. That little thing the mom says at the beginning about how you only have a few precious years of your child begging for your attention and you will spend the rest of their lives being the one chasing them for attention. It gets to me every time, especially now that I'm a mom, I think of that line every single day, and it makes me cry every time!

This is really fantastic. I get really frustrated sometimes with the way people talk about Peter Pan because a lot of people only choose to focus on his heroic adventurous side without taking into account his darker more villainous side. Which IMO really misses out on the point of the story. I always saw the moral of the story being that yes. Growing up is terrifying. But in the end its okay to grow up. It's something that we all have to do but keeping the childlike sense of wonder and adventure is what makes life better. I always saw it as a cautionary tale. Peter is not the character you want to be like. He is so selfish and so desperate to cling to childhood that he is willing to lose his friends. Wendy is the hero of the story. She's the character you want to emulate. And I like how they show it in return to Neverland when we see that she has grown up and has a family and is happy.

XD I was so excited when I saw on Insta that you would be the guest vlogger, because no one would fit this week's theme better. =) I've yet to see the other Peter Pan movies besides the Disney animated one. I agree that Peter is special because of all the things that Andrew said. And I think that's something that I didn't understand until now because, as a kid, I never really liked him. Oops. XD I couldn't GET his character, but as I grew older I feel like I grew to understand the complexities of his character a lot more. Side note, I've been binge watching Once Upon a Time, and it's interesting listening to you talk about Peter when they portray him in an entirely different way. XD

I love how Andrew relates to Peter as a real person, as when J.M Barrie's brother died when he was a child, Barrie would dress in his brothers clothes and try and cheer up his mother. So in a way even as a child he was trying to stop people from growing up. There is an official Peter Pan sequel book commissioned by Great Ormond Street a few years ago. Peter Pan In Scarlet. Which they've kept very true to the first book. It's a good read. I recommend it. If you read this Andrew and Hali Congratulations on your daughter, she's a pretty little pixie. I hope there is a follow up to this vlog.

I think it's absolutely perfect that this week is Peter Pan week, because, for me, this week has been about the first adult decisions I've been having to make. Adulthood always seemed so distant to me and now it's right around the corner. Thanks for reminding me this week that it's okay to grow up and it's not as dangerous as Peter makes it seem. Ok, so my jaw dropped as soon as I saw who was hosting/special guest! Thank you for this, it really made my day yesterday, today, and every single time that I have/will have gone back to watch it over again. All three of the versions he talked about are my faves too! I would have loved a shout out to Tiger Lily, but it hasn't stopped me from loving the story, and all things popular that have come about regarding my favorite story of all time. I was nodding along to this entire video with the biggest smile on my face. Peter pan has been a special part of my life ever since I can remember it's more than a story to me it's a huge part of who I am. Really interesting to hear another panfantatics outlook on the character. I second the motion for making Andrew the permanent Wednesday Thingamavlogger! I'm glad you included the Jeremy Sumpter version on your list. It's my favorite film adaptation of Peter Pan and I feel like not enough people know about it. It was a movie that flew squarely under the radar which is a shame because of the fantastic performances by Jeremy and Jason. I know this is going to be an unpopular opinion but I don't think Hook deserves to be in the top 3. It's a FANTASTIC film, don't get me wrong. But it is VERY MUCH an alternate universe. So much of the very premise of Hook directly contradicts the universe that J.M. Barrie laid out in his stories so while I think it's a delightful movie, it's not a very accurate reflection on the actual Peter Pan myth, if you will. In addition to the Disney film and the Sumpter film my number 3 would be the 2000 film of the Glenn Casale/Jerome Robbins musical starring Cathy Rigby. As musicals go it's never been considered on of the best because most of the songs are, truthfully, kinda lame and the script is labored. But I hold it in high honor for two reasons, one being that of all the adaptations out there it is the most accurate to the original story. The sequence of events mirrors the original play and book by far the most closely. So it gives you the truest version of the Peter Pan adventure. The second reason being that Cathy Rigby knows Peter better than anyone. By the time they filmed this she'd been playing him for 26 years, and yeah I can't pretend that she looks the part, she's obviously WAY too old and a lady, but she knows his personality and quirks inside and out. She perfectly encapsulates his enthusiasm, his selfishness, his short attention span, his playfulness, his malice and his joy and the rapid succession in which he shifts between them. She also incorporates his darkness better than anyone else (except, perhaps, the Once Upon a Time version which was a straight up villain.) On top of that she gives him a physicality no one else can. Her gymnastic ability enables her to really play with Peter's movements. You really believe that her Peter can go on all the adventures he seems to because she can physically handle them. She makes you believe that she could take off and fly even in the moments when there's no wire attached to her and she's completely earth bound. In short the character of Peter is just so ingrained in her every fiber that it's impossible imagine someone else nailing the part as well as she does. She just gets it right. So, to make a short story very, very long, the Cathy Rigby Peter Pan makes my top 3 because between her performance and the accuracy of the narrative, that version is the absolute closest adaptation out there to the original. Short of reading the book yourself, if you want to know what happens in Peter Pan and who he is, watch this version. Wow, I did not think this was going to turn into a novel. Sorry guys!
