That's just a B-rank boss. The anime might not mention it, but the light novel does. That dog was just the protector of the gate. There will be much stronger bosses in the Demon Castle, which will be featured in Season 2 of the anime.

The Cerberus fight is pretty ambiguous in the anime and how it comes about. So yeah it gives you only the S-Rank idea via the key itself to work with. But since you already have seen more - it isn't spoiling - you get a point of reference there. I think a voice line giving a better impression of a comparison would have aided immensely in the episode. But in any case people tend to attribute him power levels he hasn't reached, which makes it funny to see reactions. So it is all good.
