This is so real. African American parents will straight cancel christmas on yo ass for real. I remember when my sister didn't have all her credits for senior year. As a gift to our family my parents took us all to Miami. My sister stayed home in Chicago with my granddaddy cause she had to graduate high school in summer school lol

As a teacher in an inner city school, I one time made a call about behavior not realizing it was right before the kid’s birthday (it was 2 weeks before-that’s how early the hype starts). The mom basically told me she was cancelling the girls birthday party. She then proceeded to tell everything about the party she was canceling. It was like oh snap/ I didn’t mean to do this...and the girl proceeded to hate me for the rest of the year...

Her anger was misplaced: she just didn’t know how to express anger at herself. We are not in the business of rewarding negative behaviors.
