I agree with almost everything said. I can't begin to count how many times I wished for Revali's Gale while playing TotK. For me, I love the environment, exploration and story of BotW, and the gameplay and mechanics of TotK. I hope for the future, the Zelda team is able to find a balance in the next game.

The only one I'll agree BOTW did better is all the champion's abilities. I like the idea of the Sages helping you out in the dungeons but their activation is so clunky and Tulin has the only ability that's not already in Link's arsenal.

BOTW was fresh, TOTK was refined. I agree BOTW didnt do much better, sequel was overall an upgrade, but I feel like TOTK is getting "the benefit of doubt" even tho it didnt do much stuff fresh either. They couldve leaned a lot heavier on the Dark side of the Storytelling , but at the end of the day, both of them just **feel too much like the same singular game.** Edit: Especially when BOTW + TOTK have both Ocarina of Time + Majoras Mask as Parallel games in terms of success and reach. TOTK couldve been the Majoras of modern era.

Thanks for having us on! It was fun to take part in this video, and everyone else involved did a great job with their sections too. Personally I still think Tears of the Kingdom is a better experience overall, but there are definitely plenty of things Breath of the Wild did better than its sequel too. So you can easily make a case in each direction here. Either way, great video!

Well, here's the thing, for me: I love both games, a lot. But I can play Breath of the Wild endlessly, restart as many times as I want and never be frustrated. I love the sense of exploring, open space and wonder. Tears of the Kingdom has an amazing story and a lot of explorations, but it is so farking cluttered I feel overwhelmed. I'm only on my second playthrough (I have a second Switch) and all I'm doing is getting things done incredibly slowly. I'll spend hours doing nothing but gathering stuff, occasionally doing a Shrine, or confronting enemies if they are in low numbers. Everything is so cluttered, it's a huge chore if I actually try to tackle things meaningfully. I only do so when the mood actually strikes me, which isn't often. I have no drive. I don't feel bored in the game, but I procrastinate like hell, and all I can think of is how my initial playthrough consumed me to the point that I didn't even restart the game for almost six months afterwards; like a 10k piece puzzle I completed, only to be confronted with a second one and have a daunting task instead of an unknown, breathtaking adventure. Breath of the Wild never gives me that feeling, even though I know pretty much every inch of the game.

I struggled to think of an answer when I saw the image appear, what this game did better than Tears of the Kingdom. I do know there's one guardian in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, it's deactivated and covered in moss, at Robbie's old lab at the top of the building. I heard the reason, they didn't give Link bombs, was people where abusing the game, to perform glitches in the game, to the point of getting the Master sword as soon as Link leaves the Great Plateau. I did like the elemental swords, shame it never came back.

To me, what made BotW better than TotK or rather what soured TotK for me was that all the normal world enemies were buffed in terms of hp and damage. It made weapons disintegrate even faster. And thanks to the limitation of unfused weapons just not giving enough damage output, you had to not only search for more weapons, but also for good fusing materials constantly. That self-feeding loop made it a constant grind without the benefits of leveling up. It made exploring not fun, because I would constantly make detours just to evade the normal overworld enemies, because fighting them just wasn't fun anymore to me. It also made me use a glitch (duplication) for the first time in at least 15 years, to stop the stupid grind for materials.
@triforcetimes8 ай бұрын
Yeah the enemy buff was surprising.

TOTK did overall everything better, besides having a geniune identity. It just feels too much like the same game with a huge content & rebalance DLC, instead of a new game.

A big one for me is I like the weapons in botw more. The ones in totk with fusing stuff look dumb imo. Id rather have a cool lynel sword over a stick with a lynel horn fused on it.
@Chris____.8 ай бұрын
I was going to disagree... but you got a point. The fusions look so freaking dumb a lot of the time, any blunt object just looks like it was visually rushed; literally super-glued looking ass weapons 😂 But I think all the Bladed Fusions make up for it ngl. Having a Scythe + Greataxe + Warhammer, is basically unheard of in a Zelda game, and hella sick to see.

The way the story is told, the characters, the overworld, the shrines, the champion abilities, weapons breaking more frequently because reasons, and even the music are things I think BotW did better. And though it's a cool idea on paper, I think ultrahand is way too janky and not worth using much outside of the magical segway when not in a shrine. TotK did have better bosses and side quests though, and a better plot and cutscenes.

Botw had much better exploration Imo being the novelty of exploring a giant new hyrule for the first time. Totk is a much better game overall but exploring hyrule again was not nearly as satisfying,the depths and sky brings barely anything worthwhile to the table didn’t help. To me exploration is the whole gimmick of these new open air Zelda games so it’s disappointing totk didn’t deliver that much on that aspect Imo

Simply put, I disagree with the majority of this video. But I want to comment on the musical aspect of ToTK versus BOTW. There is well enough new musical concepts and tunes in TOTK to have its own identity. The added instrumentation supports this, however I never felt at any point in the game that BoTW's music was overused.
@prestonrcasey8 ай бұрын
I want to further add about other elements of this video. I think we were stuck too long on BoTW with how immensely large it is; we are very much used to the content the game provided. The challenge was TOTK creating a new concept in the same world, but I think the BOTW fanbase is finding it difficult to not compare the games and rely on nostalgia of playing BOTW for the first time.

thanks for watching, I agree, the music in TOTK is very good.

I'm sorry, but the fact that BotW felt newer because TotK was the 2nd game of its kind is NOT something one game does better than another. I could easily say TotK did iteration better because it was a direct sequel and BotW doesn't do that so well. Also, regarding the shiekah tech, IT'S EXPLAINED THAT WHEN THE CALAMITY IS DEALT WITH, THE SHIEKAH TECH GETS BURRIED AGAIN. WHAT DON'T PEOPLE UNDERSTAND ABOUT THAT?
