This is particularly difficult, talking about the book in detail, without spoiling it. Beautiful ❤

This is an excellent review! I enjoy books that I know nothing about and this book threw me off! The ending surprised me, I had to go back and re-read it. All in all, I would rank it 2.5 stars

Things Fall Apart is a great book, and I did enjoy Okonkwo's (my name sake) characterization. Achebe did a great job at describing what the Igbo culture was at the time of colonial and pre-colonial time, it was set at a very crucial time. Apart from Things Fall Apart, I'm a huge fan of No Longer At Ease, There Was A County and the Trouble With Nigeria. I will have to review Things Fall Apart someday on my channel, it was indeed a great book. Thanks for mentioning it.

Thank you. I'd be interested in reading more books by Achebe later on. Perhaps the rest of his African Trilogy.

Really great breakdown of this book! I'm not really a huge fan of Things Fall Apart, even though I know it's a classic and it really spoke for a culture and whatnot; I just found the writing to be a bit too simplistic and much more telling than showing. But I really did appreciate the nuance with which it told its story and the ambiguity it demonstrated towards the events it portrayed. I expected it to be a fairly clearcut condemnation of colonialism, but instead it wasn't afraid to critique the Igbo culture and show how Okonkwo's rabid "toxic masculinity" was in the end self-destructive and flawed. I think since Achebe had a foot in both worlds the story came off really well.

I love the masculinity aspect of Okonkwo, and how he ruled his household with heavy hands, Ikemefuna is another character that picked my interest in the book, plus, Achebe's style describing the story made it all easy to understand and grab.

@@JuanReads I found a secondhand copy of No Longer at Ease a couple weeks ago that I'm sure I'll get around to reading eventually. :)
