Maybe you should interview not only people drinking beers in PP streets, though, for a social experiment, to get a wider range of expats?

Earing John, is one of my drinking mates. Hi John! The Turkish gentlemen said own sry means beautiful girl. No ,it means girl who's younger than the speaker of that statement. sri sard is beautiful girl. Usually own sri sard (a beautiful girl who is younger than me). Cambodia's a great place to live. My biggest problem is getting things fixed. Many things aren't made well here and they have no idea of the concept of preventative maintenance. I sold my first car here, simply because I couldn't get anyone to get the air conditioning in it fixed long enough to last an entire journey to another town. In multiple attempts at multiple workshops, everything but the wiring and the drier bottle had been replaced. I gave up and had to sell it. They were never going to stop mucking me around. My next car was an old Toyota Camry. A couple of times I've been stuck on the side of the road, because a plastic radiator that was over 30years old, blew up and they glued it back together. The 2nd time it blew, the car's overheated and the head gasket went with it. After the first time it blew, I was aware of the 30 year old plastic radiator problem and asked multiple mechanics to get me a new one. They wouldn't do it. They'd always do the oil change or whatever else you asked them to do, but the radiator would be completely untouched. It's hard to get them to fix things, if they are still operational. On my old phantom motorcycle, I got them to replace the drive chain before it ruined the back gear. The mechanic was very fast as he did this sort of thing all the time. But he took off the side covers witch is completely unnecessary unless you are replacing the drive cogs (gears). This told me that even though he's been doing that for years, he's never changed the drive chain on a motorcycle before than hasn't already been stretched so far that it has stuffed the drive cogs on the motorcycle. This told me a lot about Cambodian attitudes to maintaining equipment. Years ago I purchased a new scooter battery because I knew they were only $6. Simply because I didn't want to have to argue with some idiot mechanic that the reason why the battery is flat, is because I ran it flat trying to start the motorcycle. They ALWAYS want to replace the battery. Then they go oh... That 's not the problem and actually try to fix the real problem. I'm not a mechanic's pinky digit, but hell I wouldn't do that stupidity to people all the time. Houses? The floor tiles lift and need replacing all the time. I've purchased my own drills and equipment to do my own plumbing, as it never leaks again, once I fix it. Well that's my biggest gripe about Cambodia. I should mention, that all the work I've had done in Cambodia is very cheap in comparison to any other country I've been in. Cambodia is the best country I know of right now, but nowhere is perfect.

Oh, I forgot one that everyone gets annoyed about. Those darn pneumatic hammer drills at the crack of dawn next door. Most houses have joined walls and my neighbor doesn't' understand, stop fixing the pipe within the wall. Re route it and go with exposed plumbing. If they'd have done it that way, the fix would have been cheaper and the Hammer drill would have only been used for about 2mins to drill a new hole in the wall ONCE! Not multiple times often taking hours digging to find where a new leak is hiding within a wall. Then you have to cement the wall back together again. Khmer's are incredibly noise tolerant to some events. Weddings and funerals must be included in that list as well.

I live there and love it, but you're definitely right that's it's not easy to get something repaired. Also try to avoid the police as much as possible. A ran ran into my car yesterday and my wife and I stayed to help the guy then police came and could only see it as a profit opportunity. It's sad, but sometimes it can get dangerous when you're trying to help so it's understandable there's a lot of hit and run on the road. The police threatened to seize my car and send me back to my country. I'm pretty sure it was to scare us and suck as much money as possible. It's still very corrupt, so people looking to move here have to keep that in mind.

@@pierre-oliviergagne1591 I don't really worry about the police here much. Generally you have to do something wrong before they try to book you. I have been booked twice here by accident when I didn't do anything wrong. But the same thing has happened to me twice in Australia and western police cost more and have worse attitudes. But you don't want to hit some one in your car or one of the Rolls Royce's running around here. Next time something like that happens, ask them to write you out a ticket. If they do that they can't pocket the money and they have to figure out a valid charge to put on the ticket. Oddly there is a corruption tribunal on Noridom in Phnom Penh. It's also disturbing that people will be left lying on the road until the police arrive at the accident here. Years ago I picked up a bike that was lying in the middle of the road and the locals all warned me to leave it alone. I got back on my bike and took off, before the cops showed up. I've also taken a guys pulse on another occasion. I think he was OK. I would have told the cops to get stuffed or throw me in jail on that one. Well like I said above, nowhere's perfect.

The Turkish isn't wrong, but I don't think he expressed it properly. Like any businesses in srok Khmer. Yes money is involved, but for a white person, yes more money is involved if they dont know a person, but that goes with everything. It's all about who you know.
