I have been type one for 19 of my 30 years of life in Ontario just like your boy. It is so much more manageable now than when I was a kid. The technology is great now from when I was a kid. I still fish all the time and hunt all the time. He will be fine with parents like you guys.

Perspective is everything in those situations. You and sam seem to have a great perspective on it all. Take it all in, learn everything you can. My daughter had 6 surgeries from day 1 to just under 1 year old. Two air flights and 6 months total in the hospital. Today is her 1 year anniversary from open heart, and she'll be 1 and a half in 2 days. It's a never ending battle. You guys are a wonderful family and it's very obvious that you'll handle it all really well. Hannen's a lucky dude.

You’re all going to be fine! I was diagnosed at age 9. That was 44 years ago. Get on the insulin pump as soon as possible. No more shots. Then get the Dexcom 7 and let it tell you his blood sugar every 5 minutes with no more finger sticks! His pump will be his new pancreas and he will be fine! Love you brother!! Messsge me if you have any questions. I’m also a registered nurse for 7 years now in my old age of 53.:)

DER-CA in Winnipeg is an awesome resource. We were introduced to them and lived your exact journey 24 years ago. My daughter is 26 now T1D and celiac and has scuba dived, snowmobiled, backcountry camped and hiked. I felt those emotions all over again. Best to all of you. It's a fairly big learning curve. But, you'll be fine. My sister was diagnosed when she was 7 and it was a huge life change for my family. We learned to live a lifestyle that fit her. Once she was able to get an insulin pump it was life changing. Made things so easy for her. You guys got this!

Our family went through the exact same thing with out then 3 year old. Love that clip of you getting high fives! That moment is still burned in my mind more than 3 years later. Such an amazing feeling to see that kid you would give anything for act like themselves again. The technology that's out there to help manage T1D is amazing and makes life so much easier. It's a long shot but happy to talk through some of the highs and lows you'll experience navigating this "new normal".

My grand daughter is type1 6yrs, she is doing great and has learned what she can and can not eat and how much. You will get through this. God bless

I live a full life without any problems today. The technology has come so far, and sometimes it’s almost like I don’t even have it. You guys are great parents, and your sons in good hands.

That's definitely a tough one to go through! My sister and brother in law just had 3 out of their 5 kids diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in the last 2 years with 2 of them having to be flown out. God is amazing and gracious and he'll be there with you guys through it all which I'm sure you've already been a witness too yourself!

Great video Jay. It's nice when we're all up-to-date on every thing. Sorry to hear about hanons er visit. It's so hard when it's your kid. My son got Lyme's dieses when he was 2. It really sucked since u will always have it. It's not like u can grow out of Lyme's. We had to go to a specialist for almost a year till he got to the point where he felt like he had all his strength back. So I know how u feal. Also so happy u got sam a puppy. U will make so many memories with the pup and the kiddo.

You guys got this!!!! I had to go thru quad by-pass a couple years ago at the age of 46. Today I turned 49 and I truly feel good. The one thing thru my whole experience is that trust the doctors and nurses. The nurses especially, they are some of the most exceptional people on earth.
