My dad told me the best hunt he ever went on was the one where he tracked a stag for 2 days through the wilderness of Tasmania, he thought he'd cornered it, was setting up to wait, and he saw it walk over the crest of the next valley. Never got a shot off but the thrill of the hunt was what made it special.

I once lived in Maryland. Pickup trucks with gun racks were the norm. Well, when deer season opened those gun racks got filled, and those pickup trucks got pulled to the side of the road, and the sharp crack of a sight mounted .30 caliber rifle could be heard in the air. Those were the days America was strong, and men didn't have make excuses for being men. That was in the late 1970s. I miss those days.

Do gotta say, Albino deer are a real thing. I'm in Northeast PA and there's a pieball doe always hanging out down the road. Not technically "albino" but it's mainly white with some brown spots. Just started seeing a pieball buck coming around this year too.
@Mooskellunge

Albinos have red nose/eyes/hooves and fairly poor eyesight in most cases, If you can get a good look, see if its not a leucistic. they will have normally colored eyes and such. To put it plainly, albinos have a total lack of pigmentation, but leucistics only lack it in their fur, they are just as rare though. Also piebalds* are partially leucistic deer

😂😂FACTS! Even the rock stories…. On our old deer lease I used to hunt on the edge of a huge winter wheat field, out about 200 yards was a rock that I swore was a big dinosaur egg. @@peabrain6872 😂I know, but a guy can dream can’t he! 👍😂 But I’m telling you, it looks just like, and is the exact shape of what would be about 1/2 of an egg, like it was cracked open, then my portion filled with sediment and over time hardened into the shape left by the half of an egg shell. My rock’s about 8 inches tall w/ around a 20” circumference at the widest part, so it’d be a pretty big “egg” with both halves together. Or, I guess it could be petrified dung too?🤷‍♂️😂😂😂

I don't know if other hunters have had this experience but I find that I repeatedly go hunting for one species, e.g., quail, and I can find all the mule deer I want. No kidding, it's like the mule deer (or occasional pronghorn) know I'm not looking for them and just show up to see what I'm up to and to screw with me. Ditto for cottontails. But not one quail to be found or the calls are all hundred of yards away. Then, if I'm lucky enough to get a mule deer tag and I go back to the same spot where I saw all those mule deer, not a one to be found. All kinds of sign that they were there just hours before but not one to be found. But dammit that same trip every quail I could never find is calling from every sage bush.

I've napped in the stand a fair amount. And, I admit, I lied and said I saw a ten point but "there were too many trees in the way." I've also gone on and on about a log I saw. Six roots, 'bout six feet long, and the top was mostly covered in moss. The bark was also partially rotted off. I saw a few chipmunks running in and out of the holes in it. I saw a black-capped chickadee sit on a root. He just kinda fluttered in from nowhere. I just gotta say, I love chickadees. He grabbed a few berries from the bush that was right next to it, he made his little chickadee noises for a while, and then he fluttered off.
