Heyyy 👋🏾 My plateau length had always been around collar bone (shoulder length). After I stopped doing these things, my hair has been growing and I'm aiming for tailbone length by 2027. What's your plateau length?

Hi what did you do to pass your shoulder length, mine is stacked there since May 2023
@Happy2be4c3 ай бұрын
Mine was armpit length. I would wear it out and style my hair every 3 days thinking I was protecting my ends. Then I messed it up by doing a texlax. So I big chopped last September. I have been keeping it moisturrized and started protecting my hair under a head band wig. I came across your videos and I learned to plait and use flaxseed gel at the ends of my hair and I am seeing crazy growth and retention. By the end of this year my hair will be longer than last year before I big chopped it off. Thanks to you sis❤❤❤❤. You are a blessing!!
@Natural2020_3 ай бұрын
What an amazing journey!! I'm definitely glad you mentioned about Texlax because I was told it wouldn't really affect my hair. Glad I didn't do it now. It's amazing how just protective styling and putting our ends away does wonders. Can't wait to hear about your growth next year 🙌🏽 And thank you ☺️
@Happy2be4c3 ай бұрын
@@Natural2020_ A textlax is the same as a relaxer. It's just a weaker form. I only did it once and for a few months it was cute. But I started to notice my hair was getting thinner and my banto knots lost the volume it had. I decided to let it grow out then cut it when I felt comfortable with the length. I hated the way my hair was beginning to look it was lifeless. So I chopped it off and started a new growth journey... fyi 😃

Hello, is the flaxseed gel on your ends in place of sealing with Shea butter or an oil ?
@A_Wilson3 ай бұрын
For me, I plateaued at just above bra strap length. The reason was simple, I did ALL the wrong things for my hair! I started heat stretching after every wash, which was every week at the time. I stopped using coconut oil prior to washing, and I wore my hair out every week AND I combed it dry! 😅 My hair kept getting shorter and shorter. Then, I had to cut a significant amount a couple of years ago from heat damage and just over manipulation. Now I'm back to just about bras strap length. ☺️
@Natural2020_3 ай бұрын
Hey 👋🏾 yes, I can see how those practices wouldn't help much. But I'm glad you had a reset and you're past the plateau now. Onwards and upwards from here (well, downwards actually lol)

I've been stuck at shoulder length for the longest, but it seems i am finally pushing past. As you say, the key is protecting my ends from dryness and single strand knots which then leads to splitting. If and when I've proven my new approach I'll come back here.

Sis, when I realised it was basically just because my hair was dry and breaking, it's like my eyes were opened. Love to hear that you're getting passed it now. Be sure to take pictures of your journey, it really helps to encourage you along the way.

Mine is bra strap length. I have realized that I don't moisturize enough like I did in the past, especially in a wash and go. I also began to roller set my natural hair for more of a stretched style. Hair behaves better and holds moisture better too.
@Natural2020_3 ай бұрын
Thank you for commenting. Have you been able to get past bra strap length as yet? Ooh I've never tried roller sets but I can definitely see how stretching your hair that way would really help it.

My plateau has been shoulder length. I have very fine strands, medium density. Even though every single porosity test result indicated my hair was low porosity, when I started treating it like high porosity, I started maintaining more length. I had to add protein treatments. I also believe tucking my ends away and double sealing my ends (flaxseed or botanical gels) helped.
@Natural2020_3 ай бұрын
I have heard that the porosity tests aren't really accurate, but that's good that you were able to discover it anyway. Sounds like you're doing well on your journey 🙂

My plateau is shoulder length. I've gotten past it in the past but I had a set back and had to cut it. It had multiple lengths and it's just now getting to be one length. So I know it is growing, just not very fast. Plus I have to color my grey hair which is a demarcation for growth so I used to wash my hair weekly but I'm trying to go every two weeks now or even once a month. I don't use a lot of products so I don't get a lot of build up.
@Natural2020_3 ай бұрын
If you've gotten past it before, no doubt you'll do it again 🙌🏽 Trying to get to monthly washes, yes that's so helpful when life is a bit busy and full on. Have you heard of Scoop and Spread? I learned the technique from Green Beauty. If I occasionally need to stretch wash day another week, I do a process called scoop and spread which helps.

@Natural2020_3 ай бұрын
Hey, hmm. It's hard to say really but a few typical culprit would be: how do you typically wear your hair? Is the back rubbing on your clothes, pillows, chairs or anything like that? Do you keep it in a protective style? Do you wash and moisturise your hair regularly?
@lwendobanda29863 ай бұрын
@@Natural2020_ mostly I sleep on my back maybe that could be the reason,, it's always in a protective style because I'm trying to retain length plus I do moisturize.
@Natural2020_2 ай бұрын
@@lwendobanda2986 maybe that's it. But if your hair is covered with a satin or silk scarf, I wouldn't have thought sleeping on your back would prevent length retention. Have you tried hair growth oils and massaging daily? If not, you could try doing that regularly for a about a month and see if you notice even a small difference.

@@christianagallow7383 ok I was thinking specifically just the ends. So for example for me, though my hair is in mini twists, my ends aren't twisted, they're twirled.
