Sunday night in Melbourne and I've just watched this week's offering from you, Mike. Yes, no matter where one lives, there is always something new to do and explore. I love your promotion of the pantavus jacket. I have a similar blue waterproof jacket but it's a poor man's version of pantavus without the hood and reflective stripes. You hit the spot nicely with the enjoinder to go out when you can and explore what is around you. You have given so much joy to people over the last 18 months since the scourge of COVID put our world into panic and depression, so PAT YOURSELF ON THE BACK. Great that you have Matt on board to assist with editing, He's a cool dude and it's great you are friends as well as having a professional relationship. Loved the adrenalin rush of those tree-top suspension bridges. Had a chuckle at the icecream sandwiches. Those are giant sized choc wedges you both had. Great to see you are enjoying your summer. Here in Melbourne it's mid winter and I'm having a love affair with my gas space heater. We are relatively free to travel within our own State of Victoria at the moment and enjoy some measure of normal life after a five week lockdown but now it's Sydney's turn to suffer. Interstate travel and our travel bubble with our Kiwi mates across the ditch (Tasman Sea) has been suspended for now (Just in time to stuff up the plans of many families trying to get away for the mid year school holidays). Oh well, at least I have managed to avoid the virus so far by following the rules. I'm content to do just what you suggest - explore locally and discover what's new! Until next week's offering; Cheers, enjoy the summer and stay safe.

1) Thanks for introducing Matt. 2) I'm not good with heights and my balance sucks but the tree walk looks fantastic. I have gone to arboretums and botanical gardens in other cities but not yet in Vancouver. 3) Thanks for continuing to state that the lands are unceded - it's an important distinction.

Mike great video. Love stepping back in time, real interesting! Growing up we had a rotary phone on a party line. When you were able to get the line free you could hear a click and you knew someone was listening in. Could have been with two three other people. I am 67 and your right when I think of the black and white TV with the lens we bought and stuck on the screen to make the picture look bigger and party lines then think where we are today with technology it’s a relatively short amount of time. Ok I know 67 is old but it’s amazing to think your call got placed with someone pulling a wire and plugging you in. Now you take a little box out of you pocket and can see a person talking to you from anywhere. At this age it blows my mind! Matt’s awesome, great content and edit!!! Yes need more Matt in front of the camera! 😀👍👍

The ubc botanical garden is such an under rated spot. Its rarely busy and in the spring the rhododendrons are plentiful and huge! I also reccomend checking out the cactus gardens and the very unique "golden spruce" hatchling. Its not the most eye popping tree there but the history of how it got there is truly fascinating.

🇨🇦❤️This was great, Michael! It was nice to meet your editor and he does a great job for you. I worked as a front desk clerk at an old hotel in the late ‘70’s and used a Bell telephone maintained plug switchboard. It was a lot of fun and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. The same maintenance guy came every month to inspect and clean it and he polished it with banana oil, so the little office had that sweet aroma for a few days. 🍌

If you have a day to spare (and a car), I suggest packing a lunch and go nature exploring. Start at the Lynn Canyon Bridge (a free suspension bridge), then drive to Cleveland Dam. At the dam, walk down to salmon hatchery. If the timing is right, then you can even see the salmon spawn. If you're feeling energetic, the Grouse Grind is not far away. After that, drive on to Horseshoe Bay and explore a bit. The scenery is gorgeous. Then head north to Porteau Cove for more views. Shannon Falls is next and if Grouse Grind wasn't enough, you can hike up the Chief. (about 3+ hours). Finally, drive up to Tantalus lookout, then turn around and drive back to Vancouver. (or you can drive on to Whistler) Try to time it so you can make it to the Quercus point in Murrin Provincial Park in time for sunset. The hike up there is pretty easy, takes about 30 minutes. So if sunset is 7, get started on the hike at 6pm. IMO, best sunset ever. Bring a flashlight because it'll be dark going down.

Another great video. Wonderful and beautifully unique coffee shop and great to meet another one of your fans. The Japanese Garden is like an oasis and just more of that vibe that I often find with you. I get a peaceful calm that goes right into me. The indigenous tribes of the Northwest and the names and the parts of their culture that we often just take for granted.....I would love to see some native cultural spots and some interaction with that rich legacy. Mike, I have thought that since watching that the quality has just gotten better and better. Getting to meet Matt was great. He's seems to mesh so easily with your vibe that I just thought it was all you. Keep it up.

You did fine expressing the beauty of the garden and showed the Nitobe plaque. However the story goes that UBC brought him over from Japan to design the garden. Then BC weather killed him. So UBC brought over several other Japanese gardeners to finish the job and named the garden after Nitobe. Anywhere I have ever travelled, Nitobe is the most beautiful garden.

Loving this as always. The Vancouver Museum is really cool. At 8:31 you can see our old church neon sign "Jesus the Light of the World" that used to be at Kingsway and Rupert.

When I was a kid we used to visit my aunt who had a wind up telephone In Hazelton B.C. and you would talk to an operator that we all knew and she would connect you to your friend. That was 1969. Wow.
