I find a low setting of red and green in the spectrum helps with Torch color, especially golds and Grails. Also a higher Alk, so I keep mine at 10 and seem to get great coloration.
@InappropriateReefer2 ай бұрын
Interesting, thank you for this info! I think I barely added any green spectrum, and my alk is around 7dkh. Tempted to experiment but not sure if it's worth pissing off the rest of the tank, lol.

@InappropriateReefer I'd try adding just a few percent green and red, I'd not mess with your alk, the tank is amazing.

Goniopora pal , excellent coral , in my top 10 for sure, I think some Florida ricordia ahrokms ars a gr8 addition to any reef , easy to keep , and there isn’t much better for colour , I had a strain that was hot pink with neon blue and orange

My gold torches lacked color just like yours. Super healthy but color was very lacking. I found a minimum 200par of light and reducing phosphate below .10ppm basically made it color right up.

I hand dose ~2/3 an eyedropper tube daily, if that makes sense. I do do a ICP test every few months to check; and the Manganese level has always been at the acceptable level doing it this way for me!

Earlier this year I was away for about 3 weeks, my wife was happy to look after the tank whilst I was away. I got home and noticed a frag had been knock off its rock and was upside down on the sand bed. I righted it and there was a slither of goniapora left alive on the frag. I placed it in an out the way place and left it to its own devices, not holding out too much hope to be honest. Now its fully recovered much to my delight, I dose Mn and my Goniapora are better for it. Prior to dosing Mn I could not keep Goniapora alive.

I know every tank is different but how much manganese are you dosing and how often? I’ve got four on the smallish side and setting in 140 gallon tank. I dose manganese but very sparingly. Like 1 mm a week. Thanks
@InappropriateReefer2 ай бұрын
I do roughly 3/4 an eyedropper full (~.75ml) a day. I remember reading that Manganese precipitates out of the water pretty quickly, so I am pretty heavy handed when it comes to dosing it and just keeping an eye for run-away value on ICP tests.

What aminos are u using is it a all in one or seprate ?
@InappropriateReefer2 ай бұрын
I do not currently use amino in this tank. I have tried Brightwell, AB+, Fuel in the past, each time I do it almost without fail a coral would RTN within a week. I did not believe it and kept trying different dosage and different brand, similar result eventually. I chalk it up to my system have enough of what it needs from my regular feeding & dosing already, anything extra was just feeding the bad bacteria.

Your pectinia has a bright yellow color. This leads me to think that you probably don't have the right "gold torch". Just about any torch with a bit of yellow is called Gold torch nowadays. I never had the "right parameters" and the golds i had were just bright yellow after a few days in my tank.

It lead to further loses of heads or other torches that get affected. Will give KFC a try next time I encounter it

Don’t take this the wrong way as everyone’s visual tastes are subjective. I feel your tank has lost an aesthetic look and feel. Instantly all you see are the green sps , clam and gonis in the front. You’ve crammed corals towards the back and from a colour and visual pov, it just doesn’t look balanced or aligned. I remember your previous tanks were absolutely stunning and even this tank 12 months back looked different. Maybe it is things like your torch just looking bland on one side, and frogspawn on the other side. I guess maybe it is a few corals just outgrown and dominating the focus. I’m sure if you take screenshots of your tank over the last 6 months you might see what I mean. But again, don’t see this as some complain as it is just my opinion and it’s simply because I like your tank dimensions and seen you with better tanks. Thinking about it, it might even be the scape now, just doesn’t feel uniform. Again, not a hater just throwing my thoughts as all I see on comments is what a wonderful tank, so maybe I’m the only one who thinks this.
@InappropriateReefer2 ай бұрын
I very much appreciate your constructive criticism. I definitely think the aesthetic of this tank could be improved and I am having a hard time making the tough decision to cut corals out, if that makes sense. The clutter definitely does not help and there are areas I would like to improve. I think you hit a few of the nails on their head and gave me some food for thought. Again, thanks for pointing them out and taking the time to share, I appreciate it! PS - I am sure some of the other viewers feel the same way, but they are just too nice or didn't want to waste time writing, lol.
