If you're thinking of picking this game up but aren't quite sure about it - do it. If anything about the game seems appealing to you, I promise you will love every second of it. I went in pretty much 100% blind on this game and my goodness is it a joy. Because of the way you level up different characters (briefly mentioned in this video) it gives you a sense of progression that other games in this style don't. Only thing I haven't tried out yet is the co-op mode, but the devs have mentioned that they're going to patch in online co-op in the near future! Killer game, definitely worth a purchase.

A very useful tip this video did not cover: It's super useful if you're using range heroes, just kite them and run towards a barrier. They won't be able to enter and you can hit em from inside. Great way to defeat those tougher ones - the Giants and yellow glow enemies.

My wife and I truly enjoyed Children of Morta. Its couch co-op mechanics were elegantly designed. The differentiation of roles and characters elevated the co-op experience. The story was engaging. The length was appropriate. The art design matched well with its theme, while the randomly generated stages kept it fresh. A must buy for couch co-op or 2-stick fans even in 2021.

Yeah, I personally think Lucy and even Joey are kind of broken. Once I unlocked those two I really had no more trouble. And Lucy is probably my preferred pick for soloing.

It is interesting how I have had the exact opposite feeling toward the characters. The ranged characters feel more powerful to me since you can avoid damage much easier and deal with other ranged enemies easier. I have also gone with a much different level-up method and just went all around, which personally I am happy with.

I’m just now playing this game as it was on the steam winter sale for a ridiculously low price for the complete addition. And I am actually sad that I didn’t play this when it came out those years ago how unbelievable, the written story is in the amount of lore baked into each character, and that’s before the combat and the gameplay….which is also fantastic imo

Did all my progression with lynda and lucy. You can progress well with Joey too but you get him late, his dash passive is extremly strong and he has insane ratios in general. What matters the most is playing everyone to lvl4 to get the first passive, the next relevant one is lvl20. So as long as everyone is lvl4 you can progress pretty well with 2 chars and switch them when cursed. At the end of the game they'll be a bit above lvl20 both but with the income you made it will be very easy leveling up to 20 the others. Morv spending: Focus on attack damage and income, spread a bit in each of rhea book nodes(each single one has huge positive impact on your runs). As soon as you have access to crit damage get the 200% multiplier asap and up crit more(still but points in attack dmg if you can affort). Early on you can get few early points on hp, crit and dodge if those are very gold effective. Lynda build: lots of 1 point wonders then max what pleases you the most, her aoe damage spell is potent at lvl3 and helps a lot for clearspeed, her stand still passive is also quite strong if maxed but useless at rank 1. lvl4 and 20 passives give a lot of clearspeed. her ultimate is very strong on bosses and each ultimate upgrade is a noticeable boost of it. Lucy: I maxed the shield(first row) then ember proc(I believe it's third or second row). She melts boss and is very durable. Her 4 and 20 are pretty good tbh. You can skip tornado until you have the proc, decoy is better. Her ultimate gives her another hp bar but the dmg isn't that overwhelming on boss compared to what she can achieve when spooled up naturally. Some other characters are very strong but will require some more scalling than what you have with your initial progression.

Does the lvl 8 feat do anything for all characters? It says other family members will get /character runes on their various abilities....but I dont get it, what are they supposed to get? All my heroes are level 10 with Linda and Kevin at 14 but the lvl8 perk doesnt seem to do anything

There are many more useful stats than attack and defense. People don't understand the value of things like movement speed and crit.

Yeah that’s true, but I think it also depends on your play style. For someone like me who likes combat to be as simple as possible (mainly because I usually suck at it), I feel like it was solid advice. 👍🏼 (Sorry, I know this is a really old comment 😂)

Children of Morta is an OUTSTANDING GAME. Marvelous creation, 9.5 / 10. I sank 120 hours into it and went online for co-op multiple times in the Zyklus. It's just too short...I wish there were many more environments to visit. On top of that, even the special dungeon Zyklus is composed of the same environments that build the story phase. They should create an MMO based on this genre.

In regards of upgradung, I just pick wichever upgrade is cheapest. They get more expensive as you progress so you'll get around all of them.

I didn't enjoy playing John too much, I think the other melee characters are much more fun, but his level 20 Talent is way too good for the rest of the family. Having passive, albeit slow regen in dungeon helps alot.

Mark is both an incredible tank *and* damage dealer if you invest in his 'armor of atmar' or whatever skill, and its related skills. 30-50% armor is almost cheating. Other skills like the whip stun and assualt blitz are icing on an already OP cake. Both his base damage and crit chance are awesome, too. He's unbalanced, honestly. The other EZPZ character to use almost immediately without building is Linda. She's fragile, but she's a more reliable and easier to use ranged damage-dealer than the other option, Lucy. Having trouble with the golem boss at the end of the caves chapter? Linda makes him a cakewalk, even at low level. Kevin is absurdly powerful in the late game, definitely the easiest to use for quick runs through areas trying to do all the side-quests and souvenir collection, etc. He's weak early game, though. So, just remember hes goes from zero to hero once the family's gotten enough workshop upgrades. John is the weakest character in the game, which is ironic considering he's the family patriarch. His DPS is just bad, and the defensive properties of his shield don't make up for it. He's a much more fragile tank than Mark, and has no trade-off making up for it. Even his Guardian Rage is the worst in the game. If you're finding Children of Morta too hard, especially early-mid game, odds are you've been using John too much. Almost every skill in the game is worth putting one point into as soon as you can. The rank 0 to rank 1 boost you get for just one skill-point is usually dramatic, and costs so little. So it's usually worth doing immediately even for skills you don't plan on taking past rank 1. Hoarding skill-points to try to get a particular skill to rank 3 ASAP usually makes a character less effective than having 1 or 2 ranks in all available skills.

Linda is my best pick. I dont care how strong and durable the others are, if theyre slow, it useless. And yes, this stems from my preference of ranged heroes than melee ones, tho I do like Kevin since he's so fast damage doesnt even land much on him.

One thing I wish I knew earlier is if you get a player who is debuffed or has corruption just go back to the very 1st level and there sometimes will be a bird that you have to chase and you get her egg and that will remove the curse.

So you said to ask, so here it is. In the Family Trials mode, there is a circle in the center of the Berson's shrine room that spins when you hit circle (PS4). Does that circle serve a function? I think it would be cool if it gave you a one-time buff on whatever you grab while in that room, but haven't seen any evidence.

On my first playthrough on the switch I did what you describe for the first boss pretty much. using the rogue type character I just stabbed it in the butt repeatedly and killed it without taking any damage. I'm not sure if I was perfectly dodging through it's stuns, or if by standing close it negated them completely though. I just picked the game up again on PC though, so will see if it works again.

My only issue is that Melee seems nearly worthless with how many enemies they throw at you. The only reason I have died so far is because I picked anyone other than the lady with the bow. So I don't really see how I'm supposed to level up my melee characters when they just don't seem useful.

They really force you to use and synchronize the skill tree. I’ve gone through entire levels with Mark without being hit after I learned the unconventional way of attacking with him. Some folk don’t appear to realize that John can use his shield and attack w his primary at the same time. It’s not a full arc like his normal swing but it doesn’t need to be at that point. I didn’t notice that at first. Joey swings faster after he has momentum and can be inched all over the place whilst maintaining that same rhythm. Rage must be used to realy get the max out of the melee peeps

There's really not much of a struggle(on a dry run), other than the final two dungeons where they really crank up the enemy stats. All in all though, the upgrade system is really unique and a true evolution of the dungeon crawler. This is going to be a choice hidden gem for ages.

How do I upgrade assign skill points to upgrade skill level? I’m playing on the Switch, and recovering from the deadliest traumatic brain injury, so I cannot recall this. So I just completed it. Beat it with Mark who was my lowest character at lvl 16 and highest was Lucy at lvl 21. All characters pretty evenly leveled. I kind of ruined gameplay a little bit once I figured out a broken mechanic. So the best way to go through the stages is to NOT fight the enemies in small groups. Basically just run past all enemies and as they follow you just lure them into one big group and when you're ready just unload your big AOE (Area of Effect) damage on them. Especially if you have some nice AOE runes like the Dragon or the Giant Sword, you'll just kill an entire group of enemies with a quick burst. Mark had a good combo of whip and then staff attack that takes out groups. Joey probably has the best AOE damage though. I didn't like John as a character at first until I found out his glitch, which makes him pretty OP. John normally swings his sword, and if you have the shield up and attack it's a thrust. Normally both attacks are relatively slow. However the thrust animation cancels the sword swing and vice versa. So if you hold the right stick to swing, after John swings the sword, tap L and it will animation cancel into a thrust and then release L and it starts a new swing. Keep alternating between thrust and swing and you do crazy damage fast.

Once u reach that room holding the d pad teleports you back there. So if you wanted to explore more of the floor you're on you can easily return to the exit.

currently have 25 hours into the game and i agree mostly. The part with the upgrades is misleading tho. I for example only upgraded my luck that in the book of rea and now i get so much gold that i can upgrade things at a faster pace. I like upgrading crit and dodge chances more than attack too, since it can help with tricky shots that catch me offguard or land fatal blows on enemies. Stop selling your opinion about hp & dmg as a fact.

He's telling you to focus your upgrades on attack and defence over everything else. He's telling you to not spread your points around and focus. Since higher level skills cost more points, you'll want to save up points and you thus will indeed be "waiting on an upgrade"

If you spend points on other things like movement speed because Attack and Defence becomes too expensive - doesn't that allow you to instantly be more successful and thus get to higher level dungeons earlier, which offer more rewards so you can upgrade the expensive skills then? Isn't that the idea? If you keep going through the same low level without upgrading your character, just to slowwwwly save up money for one damage boost, you're probably gonna take longer and be more bored than if you grab the useful other skills and then rake in more gold since you're getting further.

Don't know if this still helps; it decreases the effects of movement hindering. It should help you move faster on webs, like the first Spider boss.

Game is constructed this way. It will take you 5-10 full runs to beat it first boss. And the "full runs" is the key. You stack buffs throughout whole run and some are real game changers. So my 4 tips are: 1. Always clean out dungeons. 2. Level up characters equally to get family perks from each one. 3. Remember about T key. Don't use armor / crit shrines unless you have to. After clearing last whole floor go to shrine, use it , hold T, go to boss with extra powerful buff. 4. Don't give up due to RNG. Some runs are good, some are weak. But each makes you a bit stronger. And you will finally progress.

I beat the final boss of Terralava by accident apparently and now I can’t beat it again lol. Anyone know how to get the shields lowered so you can actually attack the boss? Great video btw! Subbed. Edit: Of the subject, but twice now while playing as the karate guy the game will bug out and I can’t hit enemies with my regular attack for the rest of the run. Weird. It's punishment has Linda as one of the early characters, stamina drops if you aim and move, there's no a secondary attack as a kick or something else. If it wouldn't be because I'm playing coop with my bro i wouldn't enjoy the game as I'm doing right now.

That 4th advice is the worst. Learn the patterns. Of course with your stats you can facetank bosses, but by observing and learning, you'll get the first bosses with barely any levels and forge bonuses.

He seems sooo slow compared to the enemies! 😭😆 It kinda sounds like there will be a need for some grinding & backtracking in order to get the characters leveled up enough for fights. Ugh, lol…
