As a Turkish person, I would suggest tourists to visit Istanbul on long holidays. Contrary to other tourist regions in Turkiye, locals leave Istanbul when holidays are about a week long. As many locals leave, there will be no traffic and crowd issue in Istanbul. But shops, museums and other historic places might have limited access during holidays, I am not 100% sure about museums but some shops wil be closed during holidays. Be careful about going in and out of Istanbul during the start of the holiday and at the end of holiday. Roads will be very crowded for at least two days for each of these circumstances.

Grand Bazaar closes at the end of Ramadan (about 4 days), but the rest of main attractions are open normally but tbh Istanbul isn’t as empty anymore as many years ago during those festivities. At least traffic isn’t as heavy as you said, that’s a good thing, but visiting the main attractions especially in Sultanahmet is difficult. When we are giving tours during those days is really exhausting, that’s why as of this year we tried to avoid giving tours during those days 😅, we learnt the lesson in the hard way. Since the municipality makes the public transportation free for locals during those days everybody goes out, the ferries to the Princes Islands are usually super crowded, etc, in our case, we avoid going out even in Istanbul during those days because is horrendous how some metro stations, certain ferry lines and even the main Marmaray stations like Sirkeci, Uskudar or Ayralik Çesmesi get 😭 And 100% agree with that tip about going in and out of Istanbul at the start and end of the holidays or any other major areas on the coast like Bodrum, etc. this is something that visitors need to also pay attention to!👏🏻👏🏻

I am a South African living on the Turkish Mediterranean for 3 years now. You live and learn. Sometimes the hard way, but you learn. If you are careful and stick to the same shops and restaurants that you know, you can save money and scams. I always go to my weekly open market for great fruit and veg, cheeses and olives, and learned quickly that the women working the kiosks tend to be more honest than the men. So I keep that in mind when buying. As I speak Turkish like a two year old, I am an instant target for cheating. Also, every city has their main street (usually Atatürk street) and even though the best shops and restaurants are located there, try to go off into the small side streets. And in my case, I go to these places frequently, thus, they get to know me, and then I feel secure that I will receive good, fair, service. I have never had a Turkish person be rude to me. I am over 50, and they show great respect. The Turkish people are just trying their best to survive in a messed up economy, and I feel quite sorry for their suffering. So if you are a tourist coming to Türkiye, follow Senora Bery's videos and it will definitely help you. Hoş geldiniz.

I just came back from Turkey, I had a very nice 3 weeks vacation in August (Istanbul and south coast from Bodrum to Antalya by car). Everything was so good (I especially appreciated Istanbul, Bozburun and Kas) and the people are very friendly. I strongly reccomend not to go to Oludeniz in August, is insanely crowded. But Turkey is very expensive. I'm italian and the prices are mostly the same and even higher. The only cheap expense was the cost for renting the car.

As a Turk from Germany who travels to Türkiye often, mainly to İstanbul, I'm very annoyed by all the mentioned issues, even about topics such as ikamet for foreign friends who want to live in Türkiye long-term. The lack of consistency in many aspects about municipal and government topics, rules, laws and political decisions on a local level are very annoying. Corruption amd arbitrariness is a wide spread problem including the fact that almost every business tries to scam locals and tourists alike. And when you ask why something it's so expensive then businesses tell customers the government set prices and that it's not the fault of business owners themselves. Don't fall for that BS. Greed took over and there's no morality left in society. It's a huge disappointment to see what down spiral the Turkish government and the business owners took to get the most amount of money from tourists and locals alike. It's a pity to see what happened in the past ten years. Tourists are not really going on vacation on those spots where scamming is a daily occuring thing and those scammers now whine about the lack of tourists. I think that's what you get when you fool and scam people for years. I wouldn't mind to see such businesses and restaurants and hotels going bankrupt soon.

Hi, I'm coming to Istanbul at the end of September for a 6-month Erasmus and watching your video I have some doubts: 1) Do I really have to pay 930 USD to register my phone number just to not lose my number or are there other more convenient methods??? 2)I've been told by other students that as far as health insurance and residence permit are concerned, the university will take care of everything once you get there: is this true or may do you know if you have to do some registration before arriving or something else? 3)I'm coming to stay in the Kadikoy area, can you give me any tips on supermarket chains, etc to save on expenses (I mean tips other than eating in places that are cheap)? 4)Is the online restrictions situation really that problematic that a VPN is absolutely necessary? please answer me 🙏☝🙏🙏🙏

Wow that fee for registering a foreign phone is crazy - seems like it might make me sense to buy a phone in Turkey
@BeryIstanbulTips2 ай бұрын
Noooo! Even paying that tax makes the phone cheaper than buying one in Türkiye! Last year I traveled to Japan and South Korea I checked prices of iPhones there (I was already planning to upgrade from the 11 to 15 Pro Max) but in Türkiye it costs almost 100K TL (back then was about 2.5K-3K usd equivalent) so after checking the prices of iPhones in Japan and South Korea I bought mine in Japan, yes, once I came back to Istanbul I paid for the tax (back then it wasn’t 33K, it was around 25K) but still I saved in total around 1K usd than if I had bought that same phone directly in Türkiye, phones here are 2-3 times more expensive than any other country, that’s why they impose that extra tax for those wanting to bring phones from abroad which are way cheaper and also limited the number of phones from abroad that can be registered under the same passport number (now is only 1 every 3 years if I’m not mistaken). You can maybe get one in 🇹🇷 but a very very modest one if you plan to stay more than 120 days here and just yo use it for phone calls, etc, with wifi you can still use your other unregistered phone but not for data, calls, sms.
@sbring00able2 ай бұрын
Thanks for that reply!! Actually I have come here to live for at least two years. I am considering buying a very cheap phone and using it as a wifi hotspot, or replacing my current one with a mid ranged Android - depending on the price of course!
