I'm a Newborn care specialist, and I will tell you that almost all parents make the bath water too cold (because they're afraid of making it too hot). A bath thermometer is great. It doesn't need to be room temperature water. It should feel warm but not hot. Most of the time when baby cries the whole bath it is because they are cold. Also, double and triple check that you have everything you need for the bath ahead of time. You'll want to get baby wrapped up and dried off immediately after they get out. They get cold fast when they are wet. And last, babies are SLIPPERY!!

Great bath tips! I love that you mentioned that baby’s skin is sensitive and baths aren’t needed at all before umbilical cord falls off. Another pro tip is that even after umbilical cord falls off baths should be infrequent because baby’s ears are prone to infection from bath water. I aim for every 10-14 days until they are running around in the mud. And as a mom of 5, we’ve only had 2 ear infections in 10 years.
@kathyryder8282 ай бұрын
I bathed my babies and toddlers daily from about two weeks of age. They never had an ear infection. Correlation and causation are not the same.
@lissaharre2 ай бұрын
@@kathyryder828 you are right. But moisture in the ear when an infection hits is what causes an ear infection. So I’m glad that your kids never got an ear infection but as you pointed out, correlation and causation aren’t the same.

For anyone with back problems like me, they make a cushioned flower you put in your kitchen sink you can bathe them in. It softens the tub of the sink. That way, you can stand and bathe them. This is especially helpful for those who get a cesarean as well. Had one with my first and hunching over like that killed me. Highly recommend the flower. Cheap and my babies love it.

I saw so many comments on this thread about how you all wished you were able to look this good after birth and give yourself self care. It broke my heart bc I was you with my first two births. With my 3rd, the experience was completely different, simple because I had a partner who helped and cared for both me and babyme, and pushed me to care for myself as well. I know everyone doesn’t have this and some moms don’t even have a partner during this time, but you deserve some kind of support system after birth and there are resources out there to help you. Please, don’t feel guilty asking for help! A gentle reminder to all the mamas out there… self care and a partner who is actually a parent to your children, as well as supportive of you, is not you asking to much or being selfish. In fact, it’s the opposite, bc by taking care of you, you’re able to give more to everyone else. We all deserve that. Don’t settle for anything less!❤️🩹

Absolutely delay that first full bath until later. Thats what German pediatricians and midwives here also recommend. And you can also bathe without any shampoo, just add a little almond oil to the water it works wonders on their skin and hair.
