A privacy bonus with zigbee (vs wifi) is that you won't have wifi passwords sitting in plaintext in an end-of-life bulb when you throw it away.

Does it have to do with the zigbee mesh function ? Some devices don't support that function...

Tuya doc and MQTT feedback classes it as a router so it will expand your mesh

It appears that if you ever have a power outage the ability to pair with the driver and the remote will be blown and IKEA will not stand behind the product. You'll need to buy more of these (till they too fail.) A salesperson told me after ours failed that the IKEA engineers knew about this, but didn't have a solution. Save your money and time; buy from another seller who values their customers.

Just purchased an ikea bulb + remote for £5 today (it's on sale in ikea at the moment!), and for the price I don't mind even using it as a wireless non-smart remote!

I've notice those limitations myself, but if you're a tinkerer, don't mind reading a few tutorials and have a raspberry Pi, install Home Assistant on it and you will overcome those limitations and do much, much more! For example if i'm going across a few corredors and the lights turn on with sensors as i move along, and at the end i reach some room and manually turn the light in that room on, then turn off every light behind me, or dimming down lights when you get home through wifi detection, etc...

Yes thats what makes the custom automation setups so awesome and powerful. I have to say that IKEA has a long way to go comparing to yeelight or mihome ease of use.

I've seen someone pairing a switch with a movement sensor, leaving two switch types for multiple rooms. it seems possible I've seen.

IKEA rolled out changes some time after the video was released so it's possible that things improved since.

Just stumbled on your video. Is it possible to pair the IKEA trådfri control outlet with other gateways? Strange enough, the gateway is not available in IKEA in my country. I'm not sure if it's "not yet" or just will not be available.

Using other ecosystems can be hit or miss. If you want to mix devices take a look at a custom coordinator like sonoff dongle

I am so glad they decided to make it work over your local network only. It's just insane if all my house stops working when the internet is off. If I want remote connectivity, only the gateway should optionally offer an entry door. But devices in my house should all communicate locally. What if the service is discountinued like older game console's store, and can't use it anymore? Thanks to this I could actually consider buying this Ikea platform and integrate it with Home Assistant

Technically, if IKEA goes out of business (i know it's unlikely) they can bring the Gateway down, and you will be limited to sensor+target device only. The IKEA gateway talks to the IKEA servers (OTA etc) but does not allow you to access the ecosystem outside of the WiFi. So you are limited to how you can interact with the device, while you are still exposed to all the hacking/privacy leaks and downtimes.

I'm all about xiaomi mi home. I have pretty much least one or more of every sensor button or device. What I have done is connect everything up to the hub. then add the hub to home assistant. then it will automatically add all the devices to home assistant. and then in my router, I have set the xiaomi hub so it has no internet access at all Only LAN. Now I can still control everything from outside my home via home assistant. but with SSH and VPN and i have not to worry about what data the hub sends to the xiaomi China server! Oh yeah, do the same thing with all of my Yeelight bulbs. the only diffrence is that they have an Open API so you can enable lan control. and then again cut them off the internet so the only LAN. and still control them outside the home via Home assistant. the problem is that Google Home will not be able to control the bulbs because they are basically not visible to google home. but Node-Red fixes that!

It's a bit of minefield to navigate but the short answer is if your IKEA pairs with Xiaomi then you should see it in your Xiaomi account and subsequent homekit. But these were usually subject to exact models of IKEA and Xiaomi hubs. So it's a big maybe. Have you looked at switchbot stuff? They have decent homekit integration

So far the HomeKit integration with IKEA has been easy, speedy, and overall a joy. I am also used playing in a walled garden, So I'm happy!

While my cc2531 upgrade is here, I agree that its needed once you get into zigbee... but I'm yet to be convinced about HA - NodeRED is way too funky :)

Link the remote to the hub .. then you can control all the lights paired with that controller via the hub. You can use IFTTT to relay rules for the motion sensor to trigger the remote

Uhm... you can use the the motion sensor + the buttom together. reset the motion sensor with 4 clicks till the red led blinks hold sensor and button and press and hold the pairing button. that way you sync both.

IKEA stuff has limits to how many devices can be linked to one controller and their hub leaves lots to desire. While it's quick and easy solution for automating small light set integration into existing systems is poor and only possible with cc2531

Thanks, I figured that one out as I turned the light in the kitchen off and crawled in bed with the remote let a sigh of relief out and turned the off and then the light in the kitchen turned on!!! Oh man that was disappointing. Now I have to turn the switches off before I go to bed. 🥺

If your register the IKEA remote in the app to the hub and also the sensor to the hub it is possible...

You can register ZigBee to one mesh. If you register the remote with the hub it will work with devices registered with the hub only

I tried pairing two bulbs on the IKEA Trådfri but it got confused and didn’t work, even the first bulb remained still. I took the battery out and reinstalled it and tried to program the bulbs again but I didn’t get any reaction (the up and down of the lights). I took the controller and bulbs back to the store and bought the items again. I couldn’t ask anyone in the lighting department about my difficulty (attendants there) are helpful but not always willing to spend designated time with you. Yesterday Evening I found no one. I’m glad you mentioned I can use one controller for 10 bulbs. Maybe you can elaborate on that. Thanks!

Its been a while since I used it with the IKEA hub (I don't like it) I use cc2531 exclusively now. With bulbs the proper reset is the key. The bulb should pulse once reset is done and keep the pairing remote close to the bulb to make it happen. Also it's crucial to wait 10 sec after you reset the remote with 4 quick button presses before you try pairing

Not tied that but in theory you should be able to link all 3 to one controller. My take... Ditch the hub use cc2531. A little more work but you will thank me later

I don't believe you can actually pair it. You can pair the IKEA lightbulbs with hue hub and use hue controller. You can also use controller with IKEA lights.. but IKEA controller wont work with the hue. I'm not 100% sure but after what I have seen.. it looks this way

I don't have 2 dimmers to check it, but I cannot pair to controllers (switch and motion sensor) at the same time, I just tested it. As per controlling stuff via hue hub... Can't say for sure but the way you pair the controller and bulb indicates that the controller does not talk directly to the hub but to the light. I might be wrong but my spider sense is tingling
