Some things they do't tell you about work are: 1.Just like campus, there are some sleeping their way to the top; you'll need to be smart on how you handle your career progression while facing such outright unfairness 2. You will be smarter than some of your bosses yet you have to work under them so you'll need to find your balance so you are not always seeming like you are outshining them. 3. Think through what you want for your life and don't be afraid to quit a job that will not lead you where you want to go. Also, don't be afraid to take less money at another job that will lead you in the path that life needs to head in. 4. Your expectations about salary will need to be adjusted, you may earn 'little' for a while longer than you thought you would; they say you don't have enough experience to be paid those numbers you've cooked up in your head 5. Finally, most of these points i have made here really boil down to one point, you will need to learn to be diplomatic; learn to give just the right amount of push needed to get your career to the next level while maintaining the right amount of calm and peace

One important piece of advice I can add to this, for all the young ladies joining the corporate world. Avoid office romances; that can really jeopardise your chances of career advancement. And like Ivy said, having morals is sooo important, even if they think you're "pretending to' have morals, that's alright. Be secure in who you are. The RIGHT kind of people will notice you. Eventually, good things do come around for us good girls, just have a lot of faith and patience. Hold yourself in high regard, work hard, work really hard and you'll reach your goals.

Thank you so much for this!!!!! This is so needed especially for women who are just starting out in the workplace. I would recommend the book "Nice girls don't get the corner office" to anyone that is starting off or struggling in their workplace. It really changed my perspective and has touched alot of the things you mentioned!! Also thank you being such sweethearts, i bumped into you in person and y'all were so nice and friendly.. squads scare me because they are so tight knight and they forget to be welcoming to others but yall were amazinnnggg

I loved this topic. Very insightful. Felt like Lorna and Shikie could say more. Always love Ivy. She is so real and I always feel like i am Jules in my group of friends. Anyway. Keep bringing more topics on life's real issues. Maybe do a part 2 on this topic or do more of teaching silly techniques, games perhaps, or even make a biography video. I mean, you are already on you tube. Telling us more about yourselves wouldn't hurt.

One more thing SB never told me is that being a good intern after qualifying with a diploma, will not guarantee you that job you did perfectly well after you qualify with a degree.esp mine was a 1st class. However I just got over it with time and afterwards I just decided I never want to be employed and just join the family business in the jua Cali sector. All I can say is that being your own boss comes in many packages, just be open minded.

Something else they don't tell you - no one's going to hands you anything on a silver platter - NO ONE. Even the good boss who looks out for you has to fight for you based on something. Your quality of work speaks for you. Yes, there are cases where you work you ass off and people still screw you over but hard work and work ethic always pays off in the end - always! The part for mafisi though, yooooooo!!!!! Those be too darn many! And they don't back down for nothing! Keep your bizniz discrete because that lot's the type to kiss and tell!

I've had the same struggle in one my internships where anytime i wore heels my supervisor would start making sounds anytime I walked into their open plan office. He's like, "Eh ebu walk, walk walk. First leave so I can see you walking away are you going to walk all over with those heels in bed." Back then I was too scared to say anything, my partner at the time told me next time he tries that not to smile stare at him sternly and state that I do not appreciate being objectified. The thing about this when you say it after you leave the room said person is left laughing with other male colleague about how you are prude, these days I don't mind i don't have a problem establishing boundaries.

I'm so sorry you experienced that and I'm so glad you have grown to the point where you can just politely tell them to fuck off with their objectification. The thing is when you are starting out, you don't know how to handle these things and like they totally catch you by surprise.
