I’m 75, single, female and I camp in a Dodge Grand Caravan. I have a handicapped sticker, walk with a cane and a walker and still make it work. Age is just a number. I watched You Tube videos for one winter for tips and just got out there. Having a GREAT time!

I'm 69 and my husband and I just bought a Town and Country van to camp in. I'm in the process of picking out all the things we need to be comfortable. Loved your video and the Hell Yeahs! Oh, the things we do that don't suck: Kayak, Jeeps or side-by-sides on back roads, and bike riding the Rail Trails!

Thanks for the kind words and for sharing your “things that don’t suck“! We’re right with you on kayaking! One of our favorite activities. Especially a sunset paddle with a glass of wine!

I’m 74 and I go car camping in my RAV4. My setup, is so I can sleep in it and cook off of the back in. I have a shower tent with a 5 gallon bucket that sits up in minutes, for my restroom. I left the back passenger seat up so I can sit at night and relax and watch movies or read a book.

71 here and sleep well in the back of my F150. Have the roadie and love it. The more trips I do, the better it gets. Make notes the first few trips for what you NEED and didn’t have, then get out there. So much to see in this country, and car camping is a great way to do it. Happy to see others doing this and hope to see more videos like this one. Onward!

We’re car camping in an suv tent. 73 and 76. Separate air mattresses cuz one of us is a wiggler and one isn’t lol. We go simple. Propane burner and heater. 100w generator for phones. Sleeping bags. Camp chairs. Plastic dishes and wash bucket. And a bedside commode in the tent for potty. Basics.

It pretty much fits anything! You just back it up to the tent and extend the "sock" to join it to the car. Napier Outdoors has great customer service--I'm sure if you call them they'd walk you right through it! NapierOutdoors.com

You guys are adorably fantastic! The thing that I do that doesn’t suck = kayaking It gets me outdoors, keeps me moving and is my major motivator to stay fit, flexible and strong; or else I wouldn’t be able to rooftop load/unload my kayak solo! I love being out in the water 💦

I appreciate all you shared. I'm a rebuilt ( two knee and one hip replacement-no more pain !) 67 year old grandfather( a.k.a. Poppy) raising my twin grandsons who really want to "go camping". My challenge is I really want to keep my very low mileage 2014 Prius. I'm thinking of getting a top storage carrier and will need a bike rack for their bikes. Wondering if I should set up a bed in the car for me and have them set up a 4 /6 person tent next to the car. Any suggestions? Thanks again.

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts! And congrats on the knee and hip replacement! 💪🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 It sounds like you have a good strategy considering you want to keep your Prius. We find the perfect camping scenario is often a moving target - we’ve adjusted gear and sleeping arrangements over the years many times!

70 now. February 2023 ten thousand kilometre trip across the country in my home brew camper trailer. Melbourne to Norseman to Esperance to Albany to Bunbury to Geraldton Laverton to Eyres Rock to Melbourne. 30 days away from home. Just about to go to central New South Wales in two weeks. Middle 2025 off to central Australia. And that’s just the travel bit. Is that good enough?

Hi Dottie! We’d love to know how that works out for you - we transitioned from our van tent to a ground tent with a 90 second set up time, and a MUCH better air mattress 😆 Makes for a far better sleeping experience, and with the shorter set up time, we’re able to get out and enjoy our destinations a lot sooner! 🎉 Let us know how you make out!

@@thebig60life57 we’re doing the AlCan hey down to the US then pacific coast all the way down. Turn around and do it all backwards. Serious mattress is necessary. Some kind of platform, 2burner stove and cone coffeemaker. And some kind of potty 🚽

Hey guys. I'm just turning 60 in november. And I'm really wanting to get away more for the odd dew nights in my honda crv. I have an inflatable rear tent similar to your napier. I'm just debating now do i go for a roof tent are do i try the sleeping in the car option. Great video btw
@thebig60life57
@thebig60life57 Жыл бұрын
Hi Steve! First of all, thanks for the kind words! Roof tents definitely have their downsides, not the least of which is shimmying off your roof in the middle of the night for nature’s call. We decided we didn’t want to deal with that. While we enjoyed the Napier, after two seasons we decided to return to a more “traditional“ tent option - largely because of set up time. We found a model with more of a “umbrella set up“ which gets us rolling in about 90 seconds. That was a win-win for us, because we didn’t want to spend a lot of time setting up camp! We were more interested in getting out and enjoying our surroundings! Hope that helps and let us know where you end up!

@@thebig60life57 cool my tent is an inflatable still not got round to trying it more than once. Definitely not wanting to shimmy down step ladders in the middle of the night lol 👍

We don’t! We spent over 20 years teaching martial arts to thousands of kids. We’ve also volunteered for Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Scouts. So… While we didn’t have kids of our own, we found other (and very rewarding) ways to fill that space.
