Some little known trivia about Spartanburg which is my hometown. It is home to 7 colleges and universities, one of oldest law firms in the US, est 1825, one of the largest cemetery sculptures in the US, the only active train tunnel in the state, it had the first airport and first female air traffic controller in the state, the first radio station, the first philanthropic community foundation fund, it is where the first college football game in SC was played, and it is the birthplace of the song “Amazing Grace.” Elvis Presley once performed in Spartanburg and Martin Luther King’s uncle was once pastor of a church in Spartanburg. The first girls’ group within the Boy Scouts in the US was in Spartanburg.
