Live in Fairbanks in the 70s and we had a "picnic"every winter. We'd put on our snowmachine suits and bunny boots, paint a volley ball day-glo orange, grill burgers and make a day of it. Nothing more fun than chasing a ball through knee high snow in bunny boots! BTW went back for a visit years later. Stopped in North Pole to get "Made in Nortg Pole" ornaments. Joke was on me. They were made at a Chicago factory less than a mile from where I lived!

I've lived in Fairbanks since 1978. Great take on Arctic man. I actually didn't know that much about the event myself. I've worked on prints in my business for the event though. Alaska is for the young. I'm 62 myself and the best thing for me to do come January 1st is buy a plane ticket. One thing this video doesn't show is just how miserable Fairbanks is in January and February. I now get out of the state for about 90 days. The town gets pretty vacant come January. If you still wanna get on some winter time activities I would suggest waiting until late March though. You can still get great views of the Aurora and it's warm enough at that point that you're not going to freeze your ass off outside. Come Memorial Day the town gets pretty crowded.

Wow great video ! One of the things I did when I was there. Was a river boat ride. To a place where a woman named Susan Butcher lived with all her dogs. She was the first woman to win the Iditarod. You could ride on a quad pulled by her dogs. Lots of fun. Her garden was amazing, she had cabbage that wouldn't fit in a wheelbarrow. Thanks for sharing, hope you have a dandy weekend.

That’s pretty awesome. We will have to check out that river boat ride.

Our family just arrived here from NC and are very much looking forward to the next 4 years. We have a 22’ Ram 3500 HO/Aisin w/ DRW which is what brought me to your channel. We towed our household goods from NC and are looking for better fuel mileage but like you, aren’t ready to delete it yet either. Hope to see you around base one of these days, thanks for the content!

Awesome, if you like the outdoors then you will love it here. We always move ourselves when we can. We did a full dity or ppm on the way up. You’ll have to let me know when you’re all settled in. There are lots of places to go off-roading and exploring.

@@DustinFaddis yea we are, bought a place just SE of base and will be moving in this weekend. We’re going to apply for residency and I’m looking at getting my license and tags for hunting and fishing. Already been messing around on the archery range on post lol

Hi, there was a partial collapse of castner cave recently...do you know if its still okay to go?
@DustinFaddis2 жыл бұрын
That’s a great question Jeff. I’m not sure if it’s ok to go in but I’m going to go check it out as soon as we have a few solid snowfalls.

@@DustinFaddis Oh okay ! I was so saddened about hearing this news . However , I believe it's only a part of the entrance...you can still go inside though it may be risky right now. I am not coming until March. It should be in a better condition in Winter right? Since hopefully everything will be frozenly intact.
@DustinFaddis2 жыл бұрын
@@hyun808 I think that will give it plenty of time to freeze again and it will give the whole winter to see if there are any issues.
