It's very simple, as you can see in the background this is cut out of a hill which is going down in that direction

theres a similar hill in abbotsford british columbia. It's just the way the trees are slanted near it to make it appear uphill. But that doesn't stop people from worshiping by it.

We did a small road trip there and it really messes with your head😅even when knowing the truth you just can't see it as a down hill and you don't feel it either. We even stood on one leg and tried to fall that way but you end up falling "uphill". And the water too! It goes up😂

Its an illusion if you put your hand on the water it would show as rolling down hill.

I have been on this 'magic hill' many times. One of the legends is that someone crashed their car in the reservoir and died and it is the ghost that pushes cars back up the hill so that it will not happen to other people. Another legend is that it is the fairies that push the car back up. What is weird, though, is that when your car is 'pushed' back it is not a smooth movement as you would get when it rolls downhill, but a very definite push...stop...push...stop movement. That is what makes it strange in my opinion.

Duh! Of course it is an optical illusion David McAlister. I was giving information on the legend surrounding it and saying that it was strange that the movement was not a steady one when the car moves. If you notice I put magic hill in quotes but perhaps you did not understand what I was saying. Bit worrying that you believed it enough to take a spirit level with you. I had no need of that as I understand that gravity will pull you down and not push you up. Having said that, I lived in a haunted house for 12 years and know that there are things that science cannot explain. I hate saying that as I am a scientist myself.

Its the B27 Kilkeel road between Kilkeel and Hilltown. The actual road where the car appears to go up hill itself is on a small access road down to the front of Spelga dam wall.

I lived near spelga dam when younger in nearby village of Hilltown. I passed here every couple of weeks when cycling or running or climbing the mountains. With this I know the real reason behind cars and the water getting pushed up hill. Its not an optical illusion. Its not fairies or ghosts (although i am aware of a popular story about three ghosts causing this). Its to do with............I'm not saying the real reason for why this happens. A spirit level will make it look like it actually rolls downhill. But the real reason also causes the spirit level bubble to do this.

Oh and the location is three miles roughly outside Hilltown on way to Kilkeel. (Not via Rostrevor). On your way home call into one of the many lovely pubs and restaurants in Hilltown.
