Lovely Video. Well done. Only comment is that you're a bit kind about the pollution. Even today it was the number one polluted city in the world with danger to heath warnings. I would strongly advise everyone to avoid it from January to April. Hopefully the air will be a bit less toxic in May. Otherwise, it really is a marvellous destination.

Yeah was wondering if you were going to do this style of video before you leave! It's actually very, very helpful! Must be scary at times using public transport not know the drivers! Do you know of any scams that may occur around this form of transport? Wow though the lights and lantern festival is stunning! Oh yes that burning season would be so bad and back wearing masks again! Wow that's interesting about the withdrawal fee from ATM! Yeah great advice on the accommodation and great to see that advice again regarding the elephant sanctuary! Yeah always great shopping and food, yes I did say food you guys! Haha! Wow you were there up to 4 weeks that's just so cool! Yes great job on this series and can't wait until your next location and your wonderful videos!
@PeterandYen Жыл бұрын
I think that Thailand gets a lot of unwarranted bad rap about scammers. There are lots of scammers everywhere in the world. Most of the tuk tuk drivers are very honest just negotiate the price before getting in and it'll be all good 😁👍

Great tips. There are a couple of things i am still trying to figure out. how widely accepted are credit cards? We have small kids thus tours and scooters are not good options. What can we use for visiting places outside of town (such as waterfall)? We can take a grab, but how to find one on the way back?
@PeterandYen9 ай бұрын
Hello for credit cards, more established places will accept them. Like nicer restaurants or large supermarkets. However street food and most street vendors will only take cash. I find in general cash is still the preferred payment option in many parts of Thailand. Most popular sites will have tuk tuk or drivers waiting outside. So unless you're going somewhere obscure transport shouldn't be a problem. If you want to be safe you can hire a private driver or go on a group tour.

My husband and I are also kiwi Chinese and we really enjoy your videos well done. I've been to Chiangmai a few times and am hoping to go back again next year. By the way Yen, Thai language has gender articles people attach to the end of a sentence - krub for males and ka for females. So men say khoob-khun krub and women khoob-khun ka as thank you. Thought you might be interested to know. Lai
@PeterandYen Жыл бұрын
Thank you Lai 🙂 glad you enjoy our videos! And yup totally right about the gender articles for the Thai language. We mentioned that in text on our video during the language section 😁👍

When you get 1000 Baht bills from a bank ATM, go into the bank and ask for "small money," 100 Baht notes. It is a bit intimidating the first time you do it, but that is much more efficient than going to 7-11 one 1000 Baht note at a time.
@PeterandYen Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing the tip! Sometimes the ATMs aren't at/near banks though but 7-elevens are everywhere so it's also for convenience to get change there as and when needed especially since it's a practical/popular shop for everyone too 🙂👍
@worldpac626 Жыл бұрын
How bad is the air quality? Is it hard to breathe? Wondering if I should cancel my May trip if it's hard to breathe 😊
@PeterandYen Жыл бұрын
We were there in burning season and although it's noticeable, it's by no means difficult to breathe.. we just wore masks on longer days out but short little walks it's not horrendous or anything. You can see it in the skies (so views are hazy) and you just don't wanna be breathing it in for long periods. By May it should hopefully have cleared up already 🤞🍀

Why do you need cash for grab? Doesn’t take card on the app? Also isn’t airbnb’s illegal in Thailand unless you stay for over a month? Thanks!!
@PeterandYen Жыл бұрын
Hello our grab app had issues accepting our card for some reason so paid with cash. Also though airbnb is illegal and in a grey area there are thousands and thousands of airbnbs listed so I don't think this law is really enforced.

I can tell you that I can't count the number of times I've been told sorry sir no change while in Asia. Even though most everything is cheaper, it still grates on my nerves. If you're in business, you should have change. I just never use their services again.
@someone91499 ай бұрын
It's because most of those stalls, especially in thailand are owned by locals who aren't very rich and don't earn enough in a day to have any spare change for such large amounts of cash. That's why it's recommended going to large store chains like seven eleven.

Please don't promote elephant sanctuaries without proper research . 90% of them are not sanctuaries at all and rotate the elephants between there and riding camps
@PeterandYen8 ай бұрын
We did do our research and the one we visited consistently comes up as one of the most ethical. We covered it all in a whole separate video but yes you're right there are many in Thailand which aren't actual sanctuaries so tourists need to be aware.
