Two things not mentioned are as follows: 1.- Practically three summer months of 100-degree weather every day. 2.- Air quality index is worse than the L.A. basin. That's right, there is more air contamination than the city of Angeles, which caught me by surprise.

I’m going to give you some insight I live in the 805 area & I’ve been working in Bakersfield for 4 weeks now it’s been over a 100 deg. Every day & today it was 110 deg. & the power has went out for hrs. & came back on only to go off again right when it was 110 there have been 2 earthquakes with many aftershocks. We went to the McDonald’s & a Quarter pound meal was $18. Would I ever move here well that is a tricky question if the right opportunity came for work or financial reasons probably but other then that’s a Big hell NAY! You hear people say this is a great place for outdoor lovers well if it’s at night maybe but no one goes out in the day here. What are going to do outdoors when it’s this hot?? And if you are inside with the AC running full blast it’s still 80 deg. inside & your electric bill is $1000 a month so as far as a cheap place to live you better weigh in all the factors! And when you are outside in the morning or evening there are bugs & nats that will eat you up. Oh almost forgot there are cockroaches all over. Put that into perspective. 🤨

@@Casitascrawlers thanks for for the feedback! The past 2 months have been so HOT!!! I can’t remember it being this bad or I’m getting old and more sensitive to the heat. Are you going to be here after the summer? It’s actually really nice outside of the summer. My ac bill during the summer is roughly $400-$700 but in the winter it’s about $150 for about 8-9 months. I probably should get solar but just haven’t pulled the trigger. I hope you get to work here after the heatwave. Thanks

If you are a high school teacher, there is only one district KHSD, they are the only game in town. KHSD is hostile to teachers, very abusive top-down disrespectful treatment from admins. They look for teachers to can for any reason because the local CSU churns out new teachers who start working on an emergency credential and typically quit after two years. They do not want to hire experienced teachers, they just want bodies in the classroom to babysit.

@@Skate-Agentyou didnt mention 1) crime rate, which is one of the highest in the US 2) poverty/income, median income is like 31k ie minimum wage 3) lack of education in the community, population isn’t very educated 4) job opportunities are very limited, unless it’s in healthcare 5) politics, for better or worse this is a strong red area, ppl will yell at u just for looking like a liberal here 6) air quality is literally the worst in the US casually exceeding 100aqi during the summer. 7) it’s a farming community, only in the 90’s they stopped using agent orange as pesticides in the areas outside bakersfield, almost everyone here has asthma or gets asthma for the air 8)subsidence, the valley is sinking and causes damages to houses, especially newer homes built that are built on old farm land. The pumping of all the water from the land causes this. 9) transportation, extremely car dependent are. Horrible if you want to commute by anything else and so many people here never have insurance on their cars. There’s many pro’s as well but gotta give sum realism too. No place is perfect, but bakersfield is no place to raise a kid. It’s a place to retire. (Lots of medical specialist n affordable). For kids they won’t get a good education, probably get asthma, and be more affiliated with crime/victims of crime. Just my thoughts tho, im not tryna sell anything
