One thing that would improve the EV charging experience would be to install canopies over chargers so that when it is raining you are sheltered when plugging/unplugging/ paying etc. After all they added canopies at petrol stations over 60 years ago.
@Hitstirrer2 ай бұрын
I could be wrong but some time ago I was told that it can take years to get planning permission for canopies as the conditions for approval are much more strict. So they don't bother as it's more important to get the charger itself installed.

@ I am sure you are right, with conditions attached for wind loading, snow loading etc. But the key would be install the chargers then go for planning permission for canopies after the chargers were installed , in which case you should see canopies over earlier installed charging stations by now. I suspect it is more that the charge point operator (CPO) wants to get their kit in as quickly as possible at the least possible cost to start the revenue flow. Of course I recognise there maybe site limitations but even small steps at the margin encourage greater EV take up.

Used a BE.EV site on monday for my first rapid charge experience. Couldn’t fault the process, straight forwards and easy to do for a first time user.

The "cute little site" in the Lake District is where I used to charge before I got my home charger. I always got decent speeds out of it when I did, and at a very fair price!

Great video! Would love to see you do a video on the EVDC app, some very cheap charging prices at the moment.

Petrol stations have rooves. Why don't EV stations? Lorries can fill up on diesel at a petrol station. Why don't EV stations offer access for lorries? Petrol stations are limited to space. They store their products underground. Why don't EV stations store everything that the customer should not touch or access underground? As a child, I would go to the petrol station to pump my bicycle tyres up and get the chain greased. Why don't EV stations offer three pin outlets for E-bikes and lead acid mopeds? I'm sure boys still go to petrol station to pump up their bicycle tyres. Do they see fantastic BE EVs? No, they see Range Rovers. Why aren't EV charging stations encouraging future potential customer into their facilities? Why don't EV boffins partner up with Joe Blogs to see the movements of normal people.

Disappointed to see no pull through charging points for vehicles with trailers. When they do put them in you don't know where they are because these don't feature on any of the charger apps. This has got to change if we want to see EV's seen as viable for commercial use as well has for leisure.

I agree with the "add a canopy" thought - especially considering it always rains there! A very thoughtful video BUT I wish you could have started the video showing you (1) drive your car up (2) work with the interface (3) plug in the charger (4) go back to the interface and see "How long" it's going to take to charge your EV - NOT doing this just continues to sow doubt about RANGE FEAR...please either amend this video or do an update - because let's face it, MORE people just want to charge their EVs and don't give a hoot how the power gets to them!
