Russia's not entirely to blame for that choking clothes trend bit. The new tight clothes and that beard-cutting thing took place at the same time period in Russia due to this douche bag now called Peter the Great (around 1700, I think). He wanted to Westernize Russia, which was both good on the governments part and yet really shitty on the citizens as a whole, making people wear tights and loose all the heavy clothing which kept them warm through the harsh Russian environment. I remembered this from history class even before I really got into Hetalia. It's so stupid and unnecessary that this bothers me till this day. (Sorry not sorry for this long @ss comment about Russian history)

That beard thing might make sense with context lol. Peter the Great of russia really wanted to modernize, that was like his big thing. The way he did this was by touring Europe. In Russia, noblemen wore beards and it was a very sacred tradition, while Peter was a travelling he learned that in other countries only peasants wore beards so when he went home he made it illegal for the nobility to wear them, ( unless they paid a tax) so that’s what that’s about lol.

My comment is seriously late (as in about one year late), but...I just got to say this out loud. Prussia being East Germany which may be the reason why he is still alive. In one of the international news that I read in the papers about a month or so ago, there was one news about "The possibility of East Germany taking over West Germany in regards to economics, some time in the future." For me, this proofs that while Germany is united as a Federation, there is still a distinct difference between West Germany and East Germany, on more things than just economics. About beards: Péter the great makes him to do so because everyone had a beard and in Europe it wasn't fashionable so he told everyone to cut their beard and there were people who refused. They had to pay a tax and Peter himself cutoff the beards of boyars and people who were close to him. Also there were people who committed suicide because the beards were cancelled. I heart one headcanon about Russia at that time: like he tried to grow a beard all the time, but because of the young age he failed and not so far from Peter's reforms he finally started to grow his beard and had to cut it.
