Why do we bihari call I as "HUM"? ANSWER:- All languages which are spoken by biharis are derived from sanskrit.It is not Hindi.The languages we use, borrow words from sanskrit(maximum words are from sanskrit in Bhojpuri, Maithili and Magadhi). In sanskrit we call "I" as "Ahum" So the apabhramsha form of this becomes "HUM", and that is what we use it for the word "I".

Rajat Singh Well, 60% is a rather exaggerated figure..only 9 districts in bihar out of 38 belongs to Purvanchal region who speak Bhojpuri. But their influence is so huge that others think that Bhojpuri is the language of majority in Bihar while the real majority is Maithili.

Maithili and Bhojpuri also spoken terai eastern Terai of Nepal , same condition done by my friend from hilly region, they speak Hindi mix some word Maithili and Bhojpuri, Maithil is big area eastern terai Nepal and North Bihar India, Maithili spoken both side , I can understand Bhojpuri, not can't spoken too well
