Great video! My son just committed to UNC Charlotte’s Honors College program. To be honest UNCC was not really on our radar at the beginning of this process but as we continued to research and tour... it just became very clear that Charlotte is an amazing school. It’s weird, it’s a huge school with 30,000 students that still feels like the best kept secret. Anyway, thx for the video and GO NINERS!

Straight Outta The Oven awh yay!! Charlotte is truly amazing. I would say it’s a happy medium. It is not as competitive as some schools, but I do know people who did not get accepted. @@joshuamikal I did all of my applications early action, and to apply as an architecture major I had to submit a portfolio. Definitely would not procrastinate on this for any school because it took A LOT of time. I did submit my ACT score but I didn’t have to because all schools in NC are forgiving the test scores due to covid so I don’t know if it will always be optional. I never even took the SAT because I already had the ACT and my score was ok enough for me. I hope you have fun tomorrow! I toured two years ago and ever since then, I’ve loved it. Whatever school you go to, as long as you get the correct credits for a 4 year uni, they’ll accept you, so don’t stress. I bet you have a great chance of getting in!

Here’s an update: I toured the campus and I like it! It doesn’t feel overwhelming or big as nc state. I find it a lot easier to get around, I like how there’s more nature and how it’s more open. Plus, I’m an hour away from home compared to 4hrs, which I think will help my home sickness more. I don’t think I’d have to use Google maps everyday like I did at nc state. The dorms are super nice. I hope I get one I like since I’m coming in the spring. Do you have any tips and advice on how I can make friends? Thanks!
@JohanaSellersConner
@JohanaSellersConner 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jackson! Awesome - I'm glad you enjoyed the campus. There are several different ways to meet people on campus. Some of the ones I can think of off the top of my head would be to join clubs on campus. There are LOTS of clubs. There is a club for everything. Clubs based off religions, sports, art, politics, cultures, etc. Greek life is a great way to meet people. I was involved in greek life 3 out of the 4 years I was there and loved it. I totally understand that its not for everyone. The school does host LOTS of events throughout the year (especially at the beginning and end of the year). Attend as many events as you can. That is such an easy and free way to meet people. Go to sporting events or plays on campus. I went to two plays and really enjoyed them. I always went to baseball, soccer, basketball, and football games and sat in the student section. You could also get a job on campus. That is a way to connect with others on campus. In class, introduce yourself to the people around you and exchange phone numbers. That is a great way to make friends and have a study buddy. If you live in a dorm, the RA's always hosts events. You should FOR SURE go to those. I always thought they were so fun!!! I hope this helps :) Everyone is in the same boat as you so meeting new people will be easier than you think!

Hi there!! When I stayed off campus, I lived at Aspen Heights. All student off campus apartments have their pros and cons. Personally, I thought Aspen was the best choice. I had a lot of friends living in the complex as well. I also liked Aspen because only students can live there...some complexes allowed non students to live there which I tried to avoid. Millennium 1 is another complex that I knew several people lived at. I can’t speak much to M1 but I know that was a popular place as well!

They are both great schools. My biggest piece of advice would be to tour both of the schools (if possible). That is when you can tell if you feel like you belong. Look at their on-campus housing. Look at the parking situation (how far will you have to walk to class). Look into your major at both schools. How many college grads get jobs right after graduation? Stuff like that!! Hello there!! I believe you have a great chance of getting in. If you don’t have any activities that you can think of, put down some of your interests. You can also spend this next year (if possible) getting involved as much as you can. Your GPA is great!! I’m absolutely no expert on how to get accepted into UNCC but I think you still have a shot. Don’t stress over it now. You will get into a college for sure. I applied to 5 colleges and got accepted to 2, deferred from 1, and a no from 2. Colleges also understand that this year has been so crazy so I’m sure they won’t expect you to have a ton of activists/ extras for this year. You WILL get accepted to a college and you WILL have a great time no matter where you go. Please don’t stress. I stressed out SO much and now looking back, I realize I shouldn’t have. Hi Johana, I just got accepted into UNC Charlotte. I don’t live in North Carolina and was concerned because I am seeing some reviews that this college is a commuter school. I don’t want to go here if there isn’t much campus life on the weekends. What are your thoughts? Does it get dead on the weekends?
@JohanaSellersConner
@JohanaSellersConner 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Matthew! This is a great question. There are a good amount of students that commute to campus but also a lot of students who live on campus. Since UNCC is located in a large city, there are so many things to do around the city on the weekends. I will say during football season, homecoming, exam weeks, midterms, and when the weather is really nice...campus is booming. It really just depends on what you are involved in. I was in greek like and was constantly busy. There are definitely slower times/ less busy times on campus. For me, I was always busy with a job off campus and greek life so it didn’t seem dead to me but that might not be everyones experience! I hope that helps!!!

@JohanaSellersConner
@JohanaSellersConner 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jackson! That is a great question. I will say, UNCC is not in the heart of Charlotte (uptown) it is more north. Most of your traffic, entertainment, and attractions are closer to Uptown. Even though UNCC is not in uptown, it still has a decent amount of traffic too. In comparison to NC State, I think UNCC is much more low-key. NC State was in the middle of Raleigh so traffic unrelated to students would be going through campus. One other note, I ended up not going to NC State because of how old the dorms were/ looked. UNCC has lots of new dorms (built within the last 5-8 years) and more modern than what I saw at NC State. I would highly recommend touring UNCC, if you can. Just so you can get a feel of the campus and the layout! Good luck :)

Hey, so I"m very interested Charlotte. I'm from NYC and I attend a huge competitive high school, but only 3 people in my entire grade have applied here so far. I'm worried because my GPA is only an 87.68 (3.3 UW) but I play two sports, a few clubs, and have two jobs. Do you think I have a shot at getting here?

Also, I'm planning to apply for communications, unfortunately I didn't apply early as my guidance counselor suggest I do regular decision. Do you know how long I might hear back from?

Charlotte has become increasingly competitive over the years, but it sounds like you still have a great chance of getting accepted. All of your involvement will look great on your resume. I applied early and heard back around late January/ early February. I’m unsure exactly when you will hear back- I would say no later than April. Good Luck!!! ☺️

@@JohanaSellersConner Thanks so much. My last chance to take the SAT (it's been cancelled six times) has also just been cancelled, so I feel like the odds are really not in my favor. Hoping for the best though :)

Hi Asia!!! I’m unsure how many out of state of state students they accept. My best advice would be to apply early!! Good luck this fall ☺️
