@def336tones3 жыл бұрын
@@ericnelson9100 So from what I've heard they are hiring guys straight out of school because of the driver shortage. Now I can't guarantee you'll work locally so most likely you'll be on sleepers. @@def336tones I know all hubs are different, but what is the environment like? I had a really bad experience working as a package handler there several months ago, where I ended up quitting because of harassment from supervisors. They told me, just after I started, that I needed to be where the regulars were and were always threataning to fire me. Mind you I always showed up early, never on my phone or wasting time, had a good attitude, etc. It got so bad I had to go to the plant manager to get them off my back, but then just decided it wasn't worth it for a part time job (even though my goal was to be a package driver). My concern is, do you have a grace period when u start, do they take into account you being new to driving?
@def336tones3 жыл бұрын
@@ericnelson9100 Well you have to get 60 punch ins in order to get into the union once you're in the union you get their backup. They are a bit strict on making sure you leave the hub at your gate time and you have to make your gate time. Just communicate, try your best and cover your ass by writing stuff down.

Having to start over the road before you can go day cab is about the worst hiring tactic I’ve ever heard of.
@marcusworrell71753 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if that is the same everywhere. In my area I'm pretty sure that you can choose to either do teams OTR or stay on the call board (both have pros and cons) until you have the senority to get a local route. I know several people who have done it, and that is what they told me, unless the policy has changed. I'm not completely sure.

UPS does not dictate who drives what equipment as it is one board. Seniority prevails in all circumstances. Most heavy seniority drivers prefer to drive the day cabs. The hiring is for sleepers as the video explains, it's where the growth is, however, due to retirements and e-commerce, many day cab positions have been added and do become available. Everyone can bid those positions and the highest seniority bidder will be awarded the bid. Many drivers who hired on to run sleepers just a short time ago are now in permanent day cab bids. You can jump back and forth as your seniority allows. We are a unionized workforce and seniority prevails in all circumstances. Hiring on and running teams initially, is an excellent way to get hired on into UPS. Be safe.
