Have been watching your updates on your herd and enjoying them. It's making me reflect on our first horse, a 20yr old FQH that was just the most amazing creature! We had to move our 2 geldings and at the new place was an absolute bully of a gelding. This gelding just terrorized all of the other horses there...until he met our gelding that is. The bully gelding (and yeah, he really was a bully) tried to put our geldings under him in the already established herd. Our old gelding would have none of that! He put that bully in his place and within 2 days, that bully gelding, while still 'boss horse' over the original herd members, could tell neither of my geldings what to do. Watching the dynamics of your horses reminds me so much of this time in our life. Our old gelding was the most gentle, accommodating horse to humans and any kind of baby but he took NO GUFF from any other horse. When we got him, he was with 2 mares and the people treated him like he was less important and that obvious. He acted like he was unimportant to anyone. When he came to realize he had own humans who treated him with the respect he was due, his self confidence sky rocketed and even his previous owners noticed it. When a horse feels confidence in him or herself, it expands to everything in their life. Our old gelding was the most remarkable horse I have ever known. This is just one of so many incredible memories I have of him. He always protected our other gelding as he did his humans in some precarious moments. He never failed to be #1 to us! Watching your videos recently have really brought up a lot of those memories and makes me miss him so much! But it also makes me realize just how much this old gelding taught us about horse behavior.

I always knew he was good for them because when the neighbors shoot off fireworks on the holidays he just calmly grazes like it's nothing. Meanwhile the panicky horse Ben wants to run around and maybe would hurt himself, but he looks at Snickers and then starts grazing too. I wish I could have you comment on their dynamics!

Also I was wrong about my gelding stepping up, he was corrected today by the injured mare, so it made me think that she may of let him be head horse while she was in too much pain to watch out for the herd, just an assumption, haha, love watching my guys as much as yours, show us the bite mark on ransom.
