It’s not her horse, it’s an Arabian stallion he does shows with. It’s his horse. The point of this was to give her her first lesson in Liberty work. Frederick Pignon does liberty work with stallions . It’s all he does. His shows are always very simple, it’s always about moving his horses with pressure and release. I think he’s a great trainer, I’ve always seen him be very respectful and gentle with his horses. It’s too bad he let himself get dragged into this : his horses are probably not the best choice for first timers...

Many people, like this guy in the video, are good with horses, but can't describe in words why they're good with horses. For example, this guy says something like, "Send him away," and that's all he says. But, Rick, you fill that out with so much information so I can finally understand what the hell is going on. I have so many gaps in my understanding because people cannot, or will not, or I don't know what ... maybe they don't actually know ... they won't describe it fully. (And I've come and gone repeatedly from the horse world, so I have gaps because of that too.) I've seen lots of comments on your videos of people complaining you talk too much. Oh, hell no. Talk, and talk, and talk, and talk. Just babble on all you want. I'm finally understanding why I've had the problems and insecurities with horses. Thank you for talking and talking!

I watched the documentary. I speak french. these are the brothers pignon who grew up with horses and apparently they now have a horse spectacle something like Siegfried & Roy and their tigers. the brothers are showing her how they work with horses without whips, restraints or harnesses and the horses are trained so that they cooperate by their own volition. he says to let the horse win. when the horse wins, you win. let the horse associate his training with pleasure not pressure. he also says to show the horse that you are confident and assertive - not to pressure the horse but to establish heirarchy and to allow the horse to relax because he knows you are there to protect him. these brothers speak horse.

He said it was a Himalayan salt rock and he doesn’t allow them-“the horses aren’t Himalayan and a couple horses died from it”. Showed him the tag and ingredients (salt) but he was not convinced. The ignorance runs deep. Good for your mom! I hope to do the same.

I came across a full blood Arabian mare bec the owner could no longer care for her. She is super sweet but never broken and 21 years old. The interesting thing is how their coats shine on their own, they run beautifully, and she always beats my other mare in a race to the feed buckets. Looking at all 3 which I love dearly, she does stand out against my red roan and palomino paint. All good horsies though. Its just strange how that intense breeding brings certain things out. thank you so much for sharing this clip and you opinion. My girl is Anglo Arab and this behavior is very normal for her. Since working with her before I took her on as my own I have always enjoyed her playfulness and excitement we quite enjoy our time playing and running around. She is never locked in a stable as she doesn't like it she has one off her main Paddock witch she can use as she pleases. I have always been slightly down hearted with all the show crazy horse people labeling my girl as crazy unpredictable aggressive naughty and saying she has no ground manners just because we enjoy playing and having fun together. This brought tears to my eye realizing she really does enjoy it and I am reading her correctly. She has only ever hurt me by accident my fault one time and she came straight over to see what happened. I think a little bit of context is needed here! This guy is a famous horse trainer in France (jean François Pignon), he does shows with multiple free horses at the same time and I like it because it's not perfect : the poneys are not shaved, sometimes a horse is not following very well and they really look like they are expressing their mood during the show. I'm no expert but even if this is a show and a lot of training they don't look sad to me. This video is actually a documentary about the training skills of the guy, the horse is his horse, the girl is the reporter and she doesn't know anything about horses. He just wants to show how a non experienced in body language human reacts to a horse, so yeah, she looks dumb as F****. If you watch the rest of the docu, you can see him teaching her how to pull and invite the horse to play and she succeed!

But, I was able to use him to help children with disabilities ride horses. He loved the children, they were even able to run under his stomach. I could walk him out to the field, with out a lead rope, because he would follow me, with his nose almost attached to my shoulder. Only one type of person could not touch him, And that was a man with a baseball cap. He would flatten his ears, at people like that. But, he loved children, and ( this is stupid) it was hard to take his picture, because he always followed me with his nose almost touching my shoulder. Anyway, it was a long time ago. I never run from a horse. If you stand your ground confidently enough, they won’t bother you. If they try, defend your ground. Don’t torment your horse or terrify it, but make sure they go “oh shit... they’re serious!”

Interesting comment there Rick on "barn witches" I had a "barn witch" so say offer to help me once, she was abusive to me and with my poor horse, she said he was too much horse for me, I should sell him, she said she would help me teach him some manners, to get him ready to sell. She broke a whip on him out riding, she twitched him to pull his mane and tail, she punched him in the head between the eyes, she hit his private parts when he was relaxing saying it was rude to let it dangle in human company, she got the lunge rope stuck under his tail and pulled it so hard when she was lungeing him because he was trying to dislodge it by bucking, that she took a whole layer of sensitive skin off it, she put a twisted snaffle in his mouth to ride, when she was schooling him and he raised his head slightly, she pulled so hard on that bit he nearly went over backwards with the pain, then one day he dumped her, he spooked, span round and they both hit the floor he rolled on her to get up :-D and broke her ribs and punctured her lungs, needless to say, I found the courage to send her a text thanking her and saying I had decided to keep him and not sell him, that was 10 years ago! Now this woman so say helps many people, bully their horses, she's also a dressage judge, but most of all she's a bully. I found a wonderful natural horsemanship trainer, he helped me understand the horse, think like a horse, now we have the most soft and gentle relationship, he rides like a dream, if I hadn't of done that Rick he would have had a bullet to the head 10 years ago, labelled as a bad horse, its never the horse, it's always the human. Horses feedback and they never lie! Keep up your good work and educating dumb people :-D

I'm so glad you found a better trainer. Horses have fears and hang-ups, yes, but so often the trouble is actually the humans who have mis-handled the horses. So often we come along afterward and make those hang-ups worse by mistreating the horses instead of trying to understand and work WITH them. I'm so glad you got ride of the bully and that you and your horse were able to work TOGETHER and learn to trust each other for the bettering of your relationship.

I'm sorry I see this differently. The first moment she did something bad to that horse it should have ended there. I'm glad it turned out well in the end but it was a train wreck you allowed to continue. Then you text her a message saying your keeping the horse. Not that she's horrible an abusive. You have to take responsibility for your horse and keep them safe. I would have snatched her off, given her an earful and told her never touch my horse again. I hope you learned from this.

His name is Frederick Pignon pronounced "Fredereek Pin Yon (with the N barely pronounced.)" He raises his horses and lives in France with many acres of land and he is the best there is (in my opinion.) He was a big part of the start of the very famous horse show called "Cavalia Odysseo." Norman LaTourell was the founder of Cirque de Soliel and with Frederick P. started combining circus acts with more horses than people. I'll be seeing it again for the 5th time in Montreal . Even if you don't like horses, you will leave the show respecting them and amazed about all that is involved in making this show. His brother is the one who "jumps on horses on the beach" (as you put it.) I enjoy watching your videos BTW. ;-) Frederick P. shows are all stallions and his brother raises and shows his mares. Google Cavalia Odysseo and enjoy watching all about it. I'm obviously a fan.

Ive been watching your videos for a few days, and it's made me rethink everything I've been told and in turn doing. I'm glad to find someone who isn't saying the same things as the rest of the world. So thanks, I guess :)

I think your videos are interesting, but, in this case, I have to dissagree with the background you paint around this video. I watched the whole documentary (about 1 hour) and the horse isn't the woman's horse. It's actually one of Frédéric Pignon (the man) 's horses, still in training. And he actually chose that horse in particular, because he's young and "fresh", and he wanted to show her the difference between excessive movement, interpreted as play, and controlled calm movements. Later in the documentary, he makes her work with a "mature", well-trained horse, with which she can try more exercises. It's actually a pretty well-made documentary, about liberty work, with one interviewer who gets to work with Frédéric Pignon (here) and Jean-François Pignon (his brother), and their respective horses. Anyway, thanks for the interesting videos! Cheers

Here is the deal just because you have money doesn't mean you should do it!!! People like that have no business having an horse!! This statement goes for everything.... more people need to learn it...."just because you can doesn't mean you should" UGH...

This horse, an Arab Stallion named Bamboo, doesn't belongs to the lady but to the guy, Frédéric Pignon, who has the exact same philosophy as Rick about horses… He never separate foals form their mother and the herd until they are at least three so they identify with their species and learn respect and manners from the herd... Frédéric does shows called "Liberté" with stallions and his bond with the stallions is just plain amazing!... In many of his shows the stallions play around and won't do what they should do and he just lets them... kzbin.info/www/bejne/rWK8gGagYr-back See here in a show, his horse is goofing around rolling and prancing around, and Frédéric just wait until he is done… You can see Lancelot coming back to him when he is good and ready and being totally relaxed and playful… If Lancelot was misstreated and/or abused he wouldn't come back on his own while nothing restrains him... kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJSloYaoq9hrfZo

That cute little Arab horse looks like hes floating across the ring. Nice movement. He's fine , he's not dangerous. He looks like hes having fun with his human while the human is running scared shitless!🏃♀🐎

My Arabian plays when I take him out- he tosses his head and prances sideways and will even rear and walk beside me. Is he being mean or disrespectful? NO! He is having fun, enjoying himself. I have people say all the time "Is that really an Arabian? He isn't spooky." Of course not, because I'm not flapping around at the end of the lead rope. I let him in my space so he knows how to behave instead of always chasing him to " a respectful distance". All I have to do to have him back away is hold a hand toward his chest and he moves. If you're body language is always shouting at your horse, that's how he's going to respond back.
