Its ironic because this is just basic animal behaviour, (which these people would know if they ever watched any documentaries, or went outside) toothless only acts more human because he was domesticated, and so we sympathise with him. to the lightfury, in the origonal at least, it was normal.

Honestly, it would make much more sense if the light fury was the one doing "weird courting". She'd been living along her own species that was completely separated from the night furies. They might have their own mating rituals. Same as birds; some sing, some do elaborate dances, some build literal castles, some gather trinkets of specific colors. It is very possible that it was light furies whose mating rituals are weird and unconventional, since they lived in isolation in a relatively safe environment. Night furies' courtship possibly insisted of proving strength and dexterity to prove you can provide to your mate. Light furies didn't have to worry that much about being hunted or the lack of food (especially if we go by the initial idea they were supposed to be semi-aquatic), so their courtship might be more about amusing their possible mate, or prove themselves in a different way (like doing some water dances)

The light fury found itself amazed by the spectacle of the night fury it gazed upon him for first time. While the light fury was hesitant at first, it couldn't help but linger around the night fury from a deep curiosity. Of course, she had never seen anyone so similar, yet different like him before. Toothless, while curious, neither of them were immediately lovestruck, because when she fled he took it at face value. The title alone as an alpha dragon demanded his attention with Berk, as well as being there for his best friend hiccup was a bigger priority to him. However, there was no doubt, a deep sense of longing struck him, hoping that one day he'd meet someone similar to him again. Hiccup is curious in this dragon as well, hoping him and toothless will bump into the reptile, or the species while they travel. They got what they wanted, without forcing it, because its deep curiosity incited the cloud hidden dragon to follow after them as they traveled for safety, she was still hostile toward the humans due to her being hunted down previously, she tried to save toothless from hiccup's containment, but the dragon found itself shocked when he rescued him, once more she disappeared into the sky, assessing the situation... At night, she burrs, she hums, she sings quietly for the attention of the dragon, while not waking the other beasts, somehow, almost instinctually toothless recognizes it was her. He roams around before the two meet, she runs off and he chases after her, hearing her quiet hums and none of her silent footsteps, they come to a delicate pace when prowling low, looking at each other from the scattered material that'd later be used to build the new Berk. She bumped her head into the material, causing toothless to worry, but she shook her head and quietly bellowed it off before jumping into the forest territory. Conflicted on whether to keep following after she left once more, he then heard her inviting hums and bellows. The rumbles from the dragon sounded like ghostly howls, which woke hiccup up. Toothless follows after her down to the shore, the two are finally eye to eye. Initially circling each other before the dragons stood at a distance between each other. Visibly, her tail was swooshing behind her, the light fury began to feel butterflies in her stomach. It pranced side to side without making any distance, but originally toothless had no idea what she was doing. He felt a little shocked that this was the dragon that almost merc'd his friend by throwing him off of his back earlier on. Although, Toothless acknowledged her sudden activity. With a rumbling bellow he sat down standing tall, tilting his head. Out of curiosity with how close she could get once again, she invited herself toward him, sniffing his face, neck, and then chest while nicely whirring. Confused, he immediately set his boundaries with her shoving her off and growling. A little shocked she bounced back, her tail sticking upward like a spooked cat, her wings gently spread before settling down. She wasn't deterred, she submitted her head, looking up toward him in a offering way, asking for permission to swoon him with the body language she presented to him. He was unimpressed with the offer, but he raised his head and nodded, under the expectation that the light fury would respect his demand for space this time. Truth be told the light fury has no friends or rizz, she was hunted down and captured for a long period of time that altered her behavior as an escapee dragon. It also didnt need to be said, but toothless was finally digesting the idea that the stranger who almost killed off his bff and followed him for weeks, wanted to flirt with him, but ended up embarrassing themselves in front of him by getting into his personal space. So, there was a hint of sneer judgement coming from him, even if it wasn't malicious. with wide eyes, she realizes that toothless had just accepted her attempts to swoon him... somehow. She shook her head, gazed around, before barely flapping her wings and doing a little hop with a grand smile. It... was not much, but again, no rizz. Toothless, unimpressed, just let out a hissing sigh, almost rolling his eyes as he looked to the side. --- then maybe somehow hiccup sees this go down, failing/trying to suggest toothless to be nicer to her as she continues to try and astonish him w/her fancy scales, glow, and wings, but ion know lol :D --- maybe he gets bored of it, and again has to reinforce his boundary and sits a little further away. and like a white-spotted pufferfish she uses a branch, her tail, and paws to make circles for him, then he finally shows interest and draws her ?@?! but both of them connect way better through drawing than her originally being over the top
