Synopsis: Scream 3- The last instalment in the `Scream' trilogy is set in Hollywood, where `Stab 3' is being shot, with Gale Weathers and Dwight Riley on set as advisors to Jennifer Jolie. I like the part where Sidney and Roman hold hands because obviously despite the situation, Sidney understands that he was in pain over the loss of their mother, and she knows that because she lost her too. She also knows what it's like that her mom deceived her and her father, cheating on him while he was away. She knows Roman never knew his mother, but Sidney had her in her life and still didn't know her. I wish this had been set up differently though. Roman was just too minor of a character to work as a twist, kinda like Mickey from 2. Maybe having a more organic story structure with Sidney choosing to come out of hiding when she's contacted by a man claiming to be her brother from Hollywood. All the stuff with Maureen's mystery really isn't that interesting so it could all have been backdrop to Sidney and Roman connecting as brother and sister, making their shared pain over the loss of their mother a constant sub plot that makes Roman sympathetic and gives Sid someone to relate to other than her father. You could even keep him as the director of Stab 3 since he was abandoned and raised in Hollywood, and he could be a more impassioned director who took the job for a personal reason, which would explain why Stab 3 in-universe is a semi-prequel to Stab that covers the murder of Maureen Prescott, his mother. It would make sense considering what you've seen that a person on Stab 3 was the killer, and maybe all of this would make Roman too suspicious to audience, but it would work if he was a likable character that you didn't want to be the killer. And as the movie shuts down, Roman getting depressed on his birthday and getting drunk would be in-character rather than just being kinda funny. That way the reveal adds a layer of deception, and is more of an emotional gut-punch than a shocking twist. The Scream sequels never have side characters as memorable as the side characters from the first film like Stu, Randy, and Tatum. Angelina, Roman, and the characters of Trevor, Charlie, Kirby, and Jill from Scream 4 are all characters that could have vibrant and memorable personalities if the writer had been more confident in developing them as characters and not just as suspects for audience to guess between. Scream 3 is very flawed but I think thematically it's a pretty solid movie. The progression from "What's your favorite scary movie?" in the first film to Sidney finally having an answer "My life" and being able to come to terms with the truth about her family and no longer live in fear and isolation. It completes the relationship arc of Gale and Dewey (though I wish they weren't so pissy with each other in this movie), and it moves from crazy teens acting out real life horror movies in Scream 1, to the obsession with murder trials and the idea that the parents are to blame and not the movies in Scream 2, to the actual seedy evil underside of where these movies are made and the effects they have on the people who make them. Wes Craven did a better job on this concept in his 1994 film "New Nightmare", where the cast from A Nightmare on Elm Street plays themselves in real life as they begin having nightmares about a newer and more evil version of Freddy Krueger, and the main actress experiences her young child becoming "corrupted" by her films.

i still dont like the 4th. The only thing i agree is better is the deaths. The 3rd killings are without tension while in the 4th the killings have that tension. I didnt care about any of the victims in 4th. At least i did care about fake gale or fake sidney. the motives of 4th are meh.... Roman motives are more plausible.

The original plan for Scream 3 was to have Stu Macher be revealed to have survived that tv being pushed on his head. He was supposed orchestrate the new series of murders from prison with some high school kids carrying them out for him. Also, it was supposed to take place back in Woodsboro. However, the Columbine Massacre happened, and the filmmakers decided it was inappropriate to make a movie with kids killing each and other people during that time. Add On: The voice changer is actually one of the most dragged parts of this movie, along with Gale’s hair, and the reveal of the killer.

Yes buddy. It was a reference to scream 2. The script was leaked in that one. The ending was totally redone. Also the plot of this movie is going back to when Maureen, Sydney’s mom, was an actress before she met Sydney’s father. That is why the murders are happening on the movie set. It is all related to the making of Stab 3. I think this is what fans missed, that it was going back to the beginning with young Maureen, leading to everything we saw in the first two movies. I think this why fans got lost in the plot and didn’t like it. I can also see how some thought it was over the top, like how Roman moved around so quickly and faked his death. Remember he is a horror producer, he knows all the tricks of the trade, makeup and such. As for moving around fast, he knew all the set layouts and secret passages. When you think about it , all makes sense. I thought the story of the half brother was perfect as being the killer cause in the first, it’s the boyfriend, the second, the mother, now the brother. Me personally I thought it was very well done, I was able to get where they were going, this is why this one is my number one favorite. 👍

Scream 3 is definitely my least favorite entry in the series because of the shift in tone (more towards comedy than horror) but I still enjoy the heck out of it! It's by no means a bad movie and has some really awesome, memorable moments! It did have some "Me Too" elements to it as you pointed out but it was definitely "Me Too" before "Me Too" was a thing! (Remember this came out in 2000) S4 is awesome, can't wait for you to see it. PS .. Glad we've moved far enough into the franchise to where there are no more Scary Movie references lol ;)

The killer was painfully obvious in this movie. Almost every call came directly from Roman and mid sentence he switched over to the Ghostface voice. The only reason people didn't catch on is because of the element of surprise that comes with these movies.

Angelina was suppose to be the second killer and if you watch the movie a couple times who can see how that would work. I forget why they didn't go through with it though. One big one was when the house blew up she separated from the group on purpose like she knew the house was going to blow up. And Dewey was wondering how she ended away from the others. Anglina was supposed to be the second killer as she used to be a former hs classmate of sidney. but the script was re-written bc of a masscure that happened in colombia before filming. teens died and they thought it would look bad if they made the installment too violent, thats why the kills werent really memorble n why kevin wasnt the writer of this movie cuz he didnt like the pressure the weinstains gave him so he just left

I love horror films and this is 2nd to none especially with the reveal of the true Mastermind that was behind Maureen Presscott’s Murder and the reason behind billy loomis’s revenge but to find out it was sidney’s half brother that there was the biggest mic drop for me

I had the same thought about Patrick Dempsey being the killer first time watching. He was so hellbent on having her come out of hiding, he had all this research on her. He looks about the same age as Roman, so he could've easily been the killer/long lost half brother.

I dont think anybody thought it was bad, the film got very average reviews, not really bad ones. The bar was just set so high from the first 2 that this one failed to live up to them. The Columbine Massacre affected this movie in a big way (as well as a few others) where the scares and violence took a bad seat to humour. The series got back on track with Scream 4.

This one's my favorite of the series. However, it has a complete ton of problems. I was too young when scream 3 first came out but once I came old enough to watch these movies I realized scream 3 was my least favorite and more cheesier but I still can watch it and enjoy it! Also this movie had a different written that scream 1,2, and 4 so that explains the differences in Thai movie with the others

I personally think Scream 3 is so unfairly hated, especially when you consider that Columbine happened three weeks before filming started and they were under a time crunch to rewrite the entire script because they knew the MPAA was going to come down harder on them because the overall consensus from parents was pointing fingers at/blaming horror movies for real life violence (something that is a running theme in the first three movies, which is that movies and video games/media at large isn't to blame for real life violence, it's the people who carry out those acts). Likewise, Neve was only available to film for three weeks due to the fact that she was also filming Drowning Mona at the time in Canada, which is why Sidney isn't in as much of this movie as she was the others. Taking all this into account, and the fact that they had such a talented cast to carry the script, I think it's a fine movie in the Scream franchise. It's the weakest, sure, but that doesn't make it bad by any means. It still retains the core thematic elements of the first two movies and carries it through to the resolution in the end. And now, as I rewatch this, I'm going to add a bunch of "did you know?" behind-the-scenes facts in the replies of this comment, because I'm that person.

There are a lot of in-movie jokes about the script being rewritten because someone leaked the original script for Scream 2 on the internet and they had to rewrite whole parts of the script, as well as the ending (Derek, Hallie and Mrs. Loomis were the original killers, Mickey was an innocent victim, and Randy was Gale's cameraman). They wanted to poke fun at that and it was kind of an in-joke among the cast and crew.

In line with the script re-writes, there are different versions of the script with different outcomes for who the killer is; in one version, Wallace and Kincaid are the killers. In another, just Kincaid in the killer. In yet another, Angelina is Roman's accomplice. This was also done in an effort to keep it quiet on who the actual killer would be when the final cut premiered.

Carrie Fisher was on set for about five days and in addition to bonding with the cast, helped with some rewrites and fine-tuning of the script.

When Sidney stabs Roman with the ice pick, there was a take where Neve missed the padding on Scott Foley's shoulder and, while the ice pick had a retractable blade, she still hit skin hard and his reaction was genuine pain, and that cut made it into the film.

I don't think Scream 3 is bad, especially not awful! I love the Scream movies, they're one of my favorite slasher/horror films. I think Scream 1,2,3 are awesome and Idk which is my favorite. Scream 4 is good but I prefer the first 3 (personal taste). I recommend watching "Train to Busan", it's a very entertaining film that I think everyone should watch.

I still like Scream 3 because it's a part of one of my favorite franchises, but I think it's outright silliness hurts it even if I do enjoy it for the most part and the ending is definitely a stretch. It's like you asked at the Jay and Silent Bob part, "...but why?" I'm a huge Kevin Smith fan, but that just didn't belong there. Scream 3 is a poor Scream film. But it’s a fun slasher. It was toned down so much because studios were afraid to make violent films as Columbine was so fresh in pop culture and yes, that hurt the tone and story tremendously. But I still love it and I love how the movie foreshadowed Harvey Weinstein scandal which keeps it relevant. And I love how action packed the final act was. So intense. I just wish the rest of the movie was that strong and that ending was more earned. Loved the reaction brother. Lots of fun.

They messed up the count, Roman said that he found Rina/Maureen four years ago but four years ago or even five was the beggining of Scream 1, but Maureen was killed by Billy Loomis almost the year before, so it's really 5-6 years. And did Sidney finished college or something?

@@BadRastafari97 they didn’t mess up the count. Maureen died in 95, events of 1 take place in 96. 2 is 97 and 3 takes place in 99, but no later than feb 2000 when it was released. So it’s reasonable to say 4 years even if there’s a handful of months on top of it.

I always enjoyed them all. Frankly I'm not a critic, so I try not to come on here and pretend to be. I either enjoy something or I don't. It's not my job to pick these things apart, I have no ties to the insides of the industry so I'm not going to sit here like everyone else in the comments on movies with low ratings and act like I have enough knowledge to dissect these movies structurally.

Trivia: There are 2 main reasons why 'Scream 3' differs in tone from the rest of the franchise. First, this is the only film in the franchise that creator Kevin Williamson did not write. However, the biggest reason was because of the Columbine shootings. The country was still dealing with the after-effects of that tragedy, and in response, 'Scream 3' toned down the violence and raised the humor. So 'Scream 3' isn't "bad" per se... it just had to sacrifice its scares and trust in a new writer. So yeah, it does stick out, but being such a hardcore fan I couldn't possibly discredit this entry into the franchise. 😌

* didn't COMPLETELY write. Kevin still wrote a several page outline for Scream 3, which was used except The Stu stuff cuz of Columbine. Kevin wrote the basic ideas of part 2 and 3 back when he wrote the very first movie. He always intended it to be a Series of Movies.

Have to sayy if there would be another killer for this one it would have been Angelina Tyler, motive? Roman Lover and wanting to get a famous role, script said it, just was deleted because of a leak.... just as in 2 Haillie and Derek where suposed to be 3rd and 4th killers, all of this is talked about in the leaks comment that kincaid says

I really don’t get the bad rep I liked it a lot especially Roman considering his background and the fact that he is a killer that worked alone and wasn’t afraid to go hand to hand like he did with Sidney he was a lot like Sidney in that department and he had brains and easily one of the best manipulative killers considering he got billy to kill Maureen with him. You don’t see the other being as brutal as Roman the others just stabbed and slash not really getting as physical as Roman.
