How to pressure can black beans:

MY TIPS: use big black or kidney beans, not the small ones from Aldi. DON'T over-pressurize, they get way too soggy fast. I also should have skipped the soaking part. Mine got too overdone/soggy that way.
This is what I add to beans per pint: 1/4 cup sauteed, chopped green peppers and onions,1/8 tsp minced garlic,1/2 tsp salt,1/4 tsp bacon fat. PER PINT. It takes some trial and error to find the perfect recipe and length of cooking time. I'm still learning.

Enjoyed your video. And love your little helper ♥️. I feel I need to throw in my 2 cents worth on the cloth diapers - go for it. It’s truly cheaper than disposables and my bathrooms or nursery didn’t smell as I kept the water clean and rinsed the diaper when needed. My last baby was a tiny 5 pounds and I even used cloth diapers folded very small to fit him. The fuzzy bunz brand diapers kept my grandkids dry and were able to be thrifted afterwards. As for not having timer and to wash, dry and fold diapers - I folded the diapers/clothes sitting on the floor with each of my babies on a blanket for tummy time. The period interacting with Baby was some of the best times with each child.

Yes to cloth diapering! I was so intimidated to start with my first two kiddos but have been cloth diapering for a year with my third and it has been life changing! With my boys I had to rotate brands of diapers every 2-3 months or they would get reactions. My daughter has had maybe 4 very minor diaper rashes that I clear up with just coconut oil!

I had five children and I never said, or told the name of the baby to anyone simply because the name wasn’t set until we actually saw him or her. We had always narrowed the name down to a few, but as soon as we saw the baby we knew which name was right. Also, in Canada, some provinces do not allow you to know the gender of the baby, so calling the unborn baby a particular name before they were born wasn’t an option. I had two children in a province that did this. The other three I was able to know the gender before hand and I loved that! I had three boys and two girls. ❤

What a fun video!!!! I loved cloth diapers, but it was the days that there wasn't many disposable ones! I even hung them out to dry... i find pleasure in the mundane task of using a clothesline! It was a season that I'm to have had... Ps. It wasn't a perfectly folded and many days we just kept a clean basket of diaper clothes for diapering or spit up/burp! Mine were born the days that we never knew the sex...and just went with a couple of choice names and waited until what name fit them when we saw them!

I cloth diapered my baby boy for about 5 months. I didn’t mind cloth diapering at all. The poopy diapers didn’t smell the room up as long as you had an open laundry pail so air could get it. Because I only breast fed his poop came out in the washing machine no problem and with no staining. He had maybe two blow outs and that was my bad because I didn’t have it buttoned correctly to fit his size. I was blessed with a baby boy that doesn’t mind wet diapers because once the diapers get slightly full of pee it’s very wet against their skin. I did change the diapers a lot more then I do disposable. The reason I stopped using them is because I had/ have a problem with soap not getting washed out of my washer so overtime the soap kept getting built up on the inserts and diapers which caused really bad rash on my baby boy. I would constantly wash the same diaper load honestly 7 times before I dried them just to get the soap out. So I didn’t think it was a cost saver to use the diapers since I was washing them so much using electricity when I can buy a large box of 200 diapers for $30 and that last my baby boy now for 1.5 months (parents choice from Walmart is the disposable I buy, they are pretty great). But that is just my experience. If I could get the soap situation figured out so no rash happened for my baby and I didn’t have to wash the same load multiple times then I would keep using them, though my baby is eating solids now so the poop situation would not be so easy to clean off. Side note I really enjoy your channel!! I am a Christian momma of one baby boy who is 7 months and I am currently pregnant in the first trimester with baby #2. Your videos are always great to put on when I am doing house chores. I hope God blesses your little family. ❤

I have used cloth diapers with my little ones. They are so worth the investment if you think about the cost of disposables for each year you need them... I use workhorse cloth diapers because they are way easier to clean and use because they are all cotton and I have a sprayer attachment to our toilet so I can spray the diapers clean before I put them in the wet bag.. It's really not so bad once you get the hang of it, but you do need a bin with a lid for no smell, and hold your breath when you throw those stinky things in the wash!! Also, I use the laundry soap recipe that you shared on a previous video and it cleans them so well!! God bless!

We didn’t know the gender of our children-some of our children were before ultrasounds were used in pregnancy on a regular basis. Our two kids who are married would tell the gender but not the name. Yes, I used cloth diapers on my youngest, and my oldest daughter used them on her children. Each person needs to decide if cloth diapers are for them or not.

Regarding cloth diapering: remember you don’t have to do it full time. You could just do cloth at home and disposables on the go, or cloth during the day and disposables at night, or whatever combo works for you. It’ll at least save you the cost of a couple disposables a day and give you the confidence to use cloth with other babies!

When you clean your washer, do you use the baking soda first and put it through a full cycle of hot water, then when the baking soda cycle is finished, do you start a new cycle and add the two cups of white vinegar to it and put it through an entire wash cycle, or, do you add the baking soda and vinegar together and only put the mixture in one cycle of hot water? And how much baking soda do you use? Thank you. God’s blessings on you and your family.

@@RaquelWitmer haha I’m really browsing through comments…have you seen the fasteners for cloth diapers that are shaped like a letter “T” you can use those with the pretty cheap prefolds that have been around probably close the the beginning of cloth diapering times! Then you just need the water proof covers which you don’t even have to change every time you change the diaper unless they get really wet or get poop on them. You can get the PUL diaper fabric from Joann Fabrics. Highly recommend picking up a yard! You can get two decently sized waterproof changing pads out of that. No sewing required and it saves the bed sheets from accidents (especially with boys) during middle of the night diaper changes. It’s nice to have one stashed in the glove compartment in the car car with a couple extra diapers and a small pack of wipes for a quick run the store without needing to lug a whole diaper bag…something I didn’t even do until I had my second baby!

I put all the dirty diapers in a wet bag, & once a day rinse them out & throw them in the washer. Its works super well for me! I ended up just buying organic green and clean diapers. It was WORTH my time, sanity and just because it's trendy in the crunchy world doesn't mean I have to do it! I would rather have time to make a healthy good or homemade granola then wash diapers lol

Definitely cloth diapering!! It leaves you with such a good feeling being able to save a lot of money and take care of your baby. However, I wouldn't just recommend cloth diapering but ALSO elimination communication (i.e. infant potty training). 😊 It's been a life changer! It may sound complicated but it is a whole lot easier than you would think and so satisfying. Everything you need to know can be learned at "Go Diaper Free Podcast". Or on KZbin at go diaper free. My little boy is 8 months old and goes on the potty a lot of the time. Some days we only soil a couple diapers a day and I rarely have to wash out a stinky diaper because he does that also on the potty!!😊 I am a fan!!!

There is work with them stripping them but I just use vinegar then throw them in as normal no biggy. 😂 Also can not use normal diaper creams with them, there is specialized diaper creams, but I just use paper until it it is clear. The. Big thing though for my hubby and I is the cost in the long run we saved so much money. Diaper prices just keep going up.😢

My family likes to be surprised, I think that’s one reason why we often don’t share baby stuff, and I personally am having my 3rd baby and I’ve never found out the gender, and for me it’d ruin the surprise. I don’t know if that makes sense 😊

I didn’t share my names and I was so glad because I had a friend that had her girl before we had a boy. She used one of the names we had thought of and I would have thought she used our name

We found out the gender for all 4 of our children. We told everyone our first child’s name. Our middle children’s names we only told a few people. Our 4th child’s name we kept a secret. I really liked the idea of using cloth diapers with my first three. I did lots of research into the different choices. However, I do not enjoy doing laundry at all. In fact if I could eliminate one cleaning task from my life forever it would be laundry. I eventually decided to skip them with all three. With my fourth child it never even crossed my mind. I had her in June and started homeschooling our children in September. My oldest was starting Kindergarten and our life was busy with having 4 children in less than 5 and a half years. I would say if you are hesitant about using cloth diapers skip them.

Hey Raquel i think that’s a culture and part of our religion not sharing gender and a name before a baby yes Iam sure with family personally but that’s all that’s how we’re grown up if it would be differently then It would be other way around I guess!. Iam a Hutterite Raquel and I actually live 1 mile away from your sister inlaw Emily’s parents, love them as neighbora and friends and love your videos have a beautiful week next week!!

I didn’t share the gender or name because I didn’t even know 😊never had an ultra sound , all seven born at home with midwife. Back in my child baring years the ultrasounds weren’t as good very few people knew the gender for sure . And yes the oldest five cloth diapers because pampers were too expensive and not nearly as comfortable or absorbent. The two youngest I was grateful for pampers !

I kind of think that keeping the gender or name is a Mennonite culture thing. I think it’s up to the parents of the baby. :)I think our menno culture is maybe a little more private in general, so maybe that’s why? .. but I was one of those people who didn’t even find out the gender and we loved it that way😮❤

I think it’s great whatever people decide. We did tell a few people his name this time around but probably won’t for every child. 😃 I am hoping to keep the gender a surprise for at least one of my babies. 🥰

It may be more of a Mennonite thing to not share the name. I also think it’s become much more of a norm in society to share the name too in the past 15+ years 🤷🏻‍♀️ I cloth diapered all four and loved it. I NEVER thought I would be that person as I still had many memories of dunking diapers, rubber pants, pins, and stinky diaper pails. Cloth diapering has come a long way since then. Also I used them mostly at home. The room never smelled because I had a special PUL liner and did the dry diaper pail system.

I am German and we found out with our first and only announced the gender. Not the name till birth. The second we didn‘t want to know but the doc messed it up. And we never told the name but the gender. And with our third we did not know the gender and never shared the possible names until she was born. We just don‘t want to know the 100000 oppinions about the name we picked. So when baby is here and that is the name people just accept it 😅 we are not Mennonits 😉 We used cloth diapers with the first two and did Elimination Communication with our third ( so much less laundry and she is almost potty trained at 17 months old yeay!) we love it. Saves us money and lots of trash (which also is expensive here 😬)

It may be an Amish/Mennonite thing to not share the name, but we have had a name for a baby and the baby is born... And the name just doesn't fit! So in situations like this, it's very nice if no one knew the original name! ❤

We are not Mennonite but most people I know don’t share the name here. It’s mostly because people are more likely to be critical about the name before the baby is born; after baby is here and the name is announced people don’t usually criticize it. YES!! Cloth diaper!!! We did for the first two… by the third I gave up; too much laundry. I so miss having babies (my girls are not big though, just not babies!).

Ok that is probably the best explanation or reason for not sharing it! I’m glad you liked cloth diapering! I still have to decide if I’m brave enough to try it. 😁

I used cloth diapers off and on with my first. I definitely recommend attaching a sprayer to your toilet for cleaning them. I also used bamboo liners which made it easier. I really don't like the fat diaper bum,😅 but I wanted to save the money and not be diapering my baby in toxins.😒

Your daughter is so adorable! Love your video but man, I hate the beige children's clothing trend. Children's clothes are (in my opinion) suppose to be bright, fun, and silly. I figure the child will have their whole adult life to wear boring beige clothes, let them look like kids instead of mini adults.
@RaquelWitmer

The beige was cute for a while. Especially on darker children, but for my own, it just does not good great with the skin tone. I suppose it’s a trend that we will all laugh at some day.

Not finding out the gender or telling the name is in some Dutch Christian cirkels is patiently waiting for Gods timing and taking in consideration things might not go well. Same thing with babyshowers you might get clothes for a baby that might have to stay in hospital for quite some time or worse. I don't know if that makes sense.

Good idea man tot. I'm so with you, those neutral colors are so overdone In my opinion. And about the name and gender... I'm a Mennonite and my opinion on that is simply, not to share the gender and name gives Me the motivation to deliver the kid😂 if I know the gender and the name and everything else I have 0 motivation to deliver the baby. Not sharing for is for me and no one else

Why not share the name? He’s a little person whether he is born yet or not! I don’t think it’s a Mennonite thing because a lot of people want to keep that a surprise since they know the gender!😂. And I only used cloth diapers to dust with!!😂
