I am so agonizing over Chris Cornell's suicide and hope that you have dealt with any demons you may have had....I'm sure with fame there were some. It is a different phenomenon that I liked and grew up listening to you both. You are important and have a lot of influence & soul yet to share. I look forward!

Project sounds really great, and I can't wait to see the upcoming videos. Pretty exciting! I disagree with the whole Mad Billy v.s. Father William thing though. One would say I don't exactly know the "William" side, but it seems to me that using primary antagonism is a very curious way to describe the man... (??)

SP is about emotion. The fanbase is generally around their 40s. In 25+ yrs of listening to mainstream music I've only heard a handfull of other bands with such deep, emotional, metaphorical lyrics to combine perfectly with RNR. Songs are very subjective, and you prolly wont understand what he is talking about until the situation hits you, then magically u see the lyrics making sense. It's fn unbelievable.
@Fools_Requiem8 жыл бұрын
The 90s were a good time. Also, that song was "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" (or the "Rat in a Cage' song). It was the launch trailer for Dead Space 2.

Wow, I'm such a nugget. Was listening to Mayonnaise and Cherub Rock thinking, damn why can't this group get back together. Then I took the time to look and found they are back together (more or less, not a slam or comment on Darcy one way or other).., found this series, and found new album. Neat stuff. Billy's a good guy with a lot of trenchant things to say, enjoy his work. I think, tho I'm no expert uber fan, I think the fact that I could be unaware of these things is evidence of the changing music industry, liek Billy talks about, it's more diverse., more is happening..which is great for the consumer, but not sure how a band builds a following in this environment. I hope I can get to one of these shows.

Yeah, that 44-track free album, then day for night, then the solo acoustic album, then the reunion, then the new band with Jeff, then the new 50-track (covers) album... and the empty promises goes on.. hahah
@pvtvitoguido8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it ain't even got to be free. Just finish what you started. As an old school Pumpkins fan, I rather didn't mind the whole Teargarden/Oceania phase. I mean, I can't stand a song like 'One Diamond, One Heart', but one song out of 23? Dude, not bad. Interesting music. Monuments was a complete catastrophe. I was actually looking forward to a more experimental album that was said to be Day for Night. But I don't think Billy's got it in him anymore. Though an acoustic album may not be bad. He can write some beautiful things on acoustic, and I love the sound of one, but I think his creative and rocking days are about numbered. Time to reap the benefits of all that hard work past. And there's no shame in that. A reunion would be cool, but I would never hold my breath for anything substantial to come from it. I would expect it to be more for nostalgia purposes only, but other than that. Meh... It was fun while it lasted, and I will always have the memories and will probably still be listening to the albums when I'm old and grey. The '90's was the last era of good rock and roll. Glad I grew up in it...

My favorite band of all time, and Billy one of my idols. But I find that in the last decade or so he has been trying very hard to bring himself back to aesthetic relevance in all kinds of ways which, unfortunately, cannot disguise the fact that the new music being put out is just not clicking with the people anymore. And no, this is not because masses are philistines, hostage to The System, incapable of thinking 'outside the box'. It is because the new material lacks the vitality, freshness and intensity of the earlier work. It's also surprisingly conservative and even backwards in relation to the earlier Pumpkins material, nevermind Billy's perpetual rants about being a radical and defying pop-culture in the name of originality. Numbers speak for themselves. There's no shortage of fresh, musically inventive artists whose work is being recognized as holding relevance, newcomers and veterans. Billy is not one of them, even though he brands himself through every possible outlet. A lot of what Billy is doing lately is, I think, excessively indulgent in character, without the substance to pull it off. Talking and ruminating, it seems like Billy is too much in love with himself to sort out ideas. So much material has been put out, none of it really interesting. Putting out a box set of eight hours of 'improvisational' jamming in his tea house is just ridiculous, and impresses no one. Now, Corgan has always been pretentious, and maximalist, but in his youth he had the style and intensity to pull it off. Now, he just keeps going on and on, putting people to sleep with clichés about artistic freedom, the importance of community, and the evils of the system which steers the minds of stupefied masses. Adore was the last time the Pumpkins made something really envelope pushing. Machina was very good, but it was a synthesis than anything else. Zwan was bright, but inconsequential. The Future Embrace was very good, and remains underrated, if a bit monotone and inconsistent. And then we get the 'mature' (i.e. boring) Corgan under the title "The Smashing Pumpkins". Zeitgeist is arguably the worst Pumpkins album ever: an utter mess of boring riffs and politically enervated aphorisms which never really came together in anything memorable. Teargarden was just... diffuse, incohesive, with some of the corniest material Corgan had ever put out. Things can be corny and good, and a lot of classic Pumpkins is, but this is not. Oceania was too long winded and retrograde in sound, it sounded almost like a prog rock record in its seriousness and grandiosity. Monuments is a really embarrassing failure in an attempt to be accessible by writing short melodic songs. No Billy, it's not as easy as you think, even for a musical genius like yourself. Things have been going south for a while, alas. And yes, I know I have not accomplished what Billy has. Very few have. Less than the 0.1%. Way, less. I don't think criticism should only be a luxury for geniuses who can make something like Corgan. Nor does the fact that Billy has made amazing contributions make him necessarily a better critic about anything, including himself. Maybe he just doesn't want to hear what the people really think. To accuse critics of being idiots or unworthy is a mighty fine way to shield oneself from the truth. Oh well, as long as he's happy and getting love, he's done plenty already. We're greedy wanting more greatness from the man.
