You make a kill in an area that’s known to have bears and you’re that stupid to go off on your own with just a knife to look for it the next day? I don’t care how rare bear attacks are in this country, any potential attack by a bear has to be the worst way to die because it isn’t going to be quick.

As a PA resident, avid hunter, & outdoorsy person, I’m in the woods frequently with my dog. There are many bears here in the Pocono Mountains where we live,& abundant sightings within 30 yds of my front door. I never leave without a .45 & keep my head on a swivel. I believe the game commission should give PA hunters more Sundays to hunt and lengthen the bear season as there seems to be quite a large population here.

I lived in the forest years ago and we had a lot of black bears. A few broke into our cabin when we were out, and we saw several on our porch while we were there. None of them was aggressive thank God but we didn’t feed them nor encourage them to come to the cabin. We knew it was common tho for others in that community to do both. I’m glad to have been able to see them up close and not end up being food.

Big mistake going to a day old elk kill ALONE, with no spray or a Glock 20mm, and a friend to stand guard while you clean the animal. Hard to imagine he wasn’t smarter than that. Unreal actually!

I know this, every bear I have ever ran into in the woods covered more ground than I could ever imagine they could. They are a blur through the bushes and only about three to five feet tall at the shoulder. Not the best targets and I would to have to try it out.

Lee did a lot of things wrong...hunting alone, not carrying bear spray or a gun when he went to retrieve the elk...fighting back is not recommended; it just raises the temperature. He was quite lucky to survive all of those mistakes
