Yes photos look more blurry at sizes where you can see the pixels. This looks worse than a larger sensor camera though. In full daylight this new camera looks like a larger sensor shooting in very low light conditions. And the pixels do have that shimmering look that small photosites produce due to diffraction so even shown zoomed out, it has a more digital look than larger sensor sites produce.

1. If you lose pixel count when zooming, it isn't optical zoom. 2. The pixel count is hardly the most important thing in a good camera. 3. The graininess in low light isn't all software, that's the iso being cranked up very high due to the low light collecting ability, which is due to the tiny sensors. Same problem in phone cameras. This along with optical zoom and the ability to see the shot before capturing through mirrors (not on a display) is why photographers carry around "bulky" cameras.

You said that it is optical zoom but if you zoom in it drops to 13MP... isn't that Digital Zoom (crop zoom) not Optical Zoom?
@emrys95477 жыл бұрын
It's not zoom at all. That's like saying switching out a fixed lens for a different one is optical zoom. It's not. It's just cropping, otherwise the pixel count would be higher than just one sensor.
@AkshaySinghJamwal7 жыл бұрын
It's probably interpolating the images from only the telephoto lenses by necessity, so no, doesn't have to be.
@rredureis7 жыл бұрын
It's not digital zoom, what happens is when you "zoom" to 150mm only the "most telephoto" lens capture the image, and I suppose it's attached to a 13mp sensor, probably out of a smartphone
@emrys95477 жыл бұрын
It's funny how bad this design is, really, since you can either never use all the sensors, leaving you with a bad quality image, or you'll have to stitch all the pictures together, which is just a straight up bad idea. Also, I can only imagine how awfully this thing works in low light with such tiny sensors.

.. If laid out properly. It can. But you would have to use very fewer megapixels over every 1/3inh sensor. Something around the ball park of 2megapixels or 1megapixel per sensor to get a near DSLR quality or atleast a near m4/3 quality at least :) . Or you would have to use a very advanced pixel binning or super sampling algorithms. (Like the ones Nokia used, or if possible.. better ones than Nokia used.)
@mariushagelskjr54527 жыл бұрын
Actually it gives sense since the higher resolution gives less light so if this camera takes a lot of low res pictures and combine them into 1 decent resolution image the low light performance would be similar to a normal DSLR camera but except from that the camera still wouldn't be able to get bokeh unless of course they just fake it

Clorox Beach there’s a lot more to taking pictures than just taking a shot of something that looks good. There’s theory behind it. A good of understanding of the relationships between lighting, composition, fore,mid and background elements and colour theory will naturally make you take better looking pictures. The people who know how to use DSLRs properly can understand how, why and when to use the many features of the camera because they already have an understanding of how those features interlink with that theory. Any old dude can spend a lot of money on a really good camera (like that 5D) and think the better the camera, the better the picture. That’s not the case however.

Ken "it's" will always be auto corrected by Android, you started a sentence with "lol" in a debate of English, and the statement outside of the incorrect use of preposition I kindly pointed out, would hold in an academic paper. Perhaps loosesly describable as a run on sentence, but not two separate thoughts. Was the message incomprehensible or did it just allude you? This entire discussion leads me to believe the latter.
@jerryknudsen78987 жыл бұрын
Ken allude is to vaguely hint to, or direct towards without having directly saying. Did my text allude? Was it not direct enough. The fact you haven't once replied to what was said perhaps leads me to believe I wasn't direct enough. There has not been a single published work in English, written on a phones keyboard, especially not to a troublesome time waster on a social media website in human history. Not to a book, nor magazine. So what has been destroyed? Nevermind that, this argument exists because you cannot read or do not listen
@AdrianTache7 жыл бұрын
You're joking, right? I mean this ad is just plain wrong. A full frame sensor has many reasons why it outperforms a small, phone sized sensor, or else full frame sensors would have just as many megapixels. Have a read about the megapixel race and why a phone and a pro dslr have about the same resolution, but with very different results. This abomination just digitally stitches different points of view of poor quality lenses at different angles, but solves nothing of the disadvantages of the individual cameras.

@avinashrai111417 жыл бұрын
Bx Yeah it is like cropping but optical crop and camera refocus after capture by using sharp images from few wide angle cameras and using smart algorithm of blending all the images from different sensor into one final output image. Sounds good but practically resolution of image depends upon distance of subject from the camera.

@lylestavast76526 жыл бұрын
it does when you subtract the sub-images from the wide angle lens sensors you excluded by zoominb. These images are created from individual lenses and stitched together.

It does.. when you do digital zoom..its like you are cropping the picture to a smaller pixel dimension.. unlike the mechanical zooming that dslr do dslr may maintain its original pixel the lenses do the zooming thus its not affecting the overall pixel size.

Seventeen months on, I think your question has been answered - I can't find one for sale anywhere. The light.co website reports the L16 has sold out, which is probably sales jargon for "no longer in production". In the same period, smart phones have been getting more lenses, so perhaps light.co was on the right track.

@KentHambrock7 жыл бұрын
I love the idea and have since I first heard about it, but while it's superior in some ways (like versatility) to DSLRs, it certainly comes with it's own range of issues which DSLRs don't have. Every single camera on the planet has a trade off between a comparable model and this is in no way different. If you need size and refuse to carry around a selection of lenses or simply don't want to think about which ones you'll need, this might be a great option for you, but that 5D is going to take a significantly better picture in most scenarios (especially ones where light is low) when paired with the appropriate lens. This is in no way a replacement for someone who needs quality (or features) over convenience. I'd get this as a framing camera, though. Being able to frame a shot quickly without having to change lenses could be very useful for visualizing how a picture will turn out before going for the big guns.

Hmm, pretty sketchy tbh. DSLRs perform much better than this. Also, I don't think it's optical zoom if the picture size/megapixel count is being reduced. That's called cropping.
@robertkorn7 жыл бұрын
It's not cropped, it is just limited to capture the information from the longer focal length lenses which limits the number of sensors it is getting data from. At wider angles it is able to use info from every lens, thus the greater MP count.
@stringstorm6 жыл бұрын
I doubt it'll replace DSLRs. But I'm glad that this exists. This just shows that we're still a long way from super mega high quality phone cameras. But its good that we're seeing some tech being made for consumer use. We're taking a step in the right direction.

Yes, pretty hard to believe when he is holding a Canon 5D Mark IV. Also the lens has a red ring around it meaning that it certainly isn't a "kit" lens. The red ring on Canon lenses indicates a premium lens most of which cost $1,000 plus.
@erkiandresnuut6 жыл бұрын
He didn't say that. He said that the L16's images HAD MORE DETAIL than his DSLR's (could be true, given the megapixel count). He also admitted that they sometimes look grainy in low-light scenes - that makes sense too as the sensors behind these 16 lenses are tiny.
