My 2002 Toshiba Satellite 17 inch screen, 32 Bit single core, has 80GB HDD, 1GB DR1 RAM, I currently have Linux Mint OS running well, everything works fine. For me its a collectors piece.

I have a Satellite A205 that a neighbor gave me. It had Vista Home , a 80GB HDD , 1 GB RAM and it's a 15.4" display. I upgraded it to 3GB RAM and Widows 7 Ultimate on a 160 GB HDD. The battery still holds a charge. It also has a space to add a second SATA HDD connector. So far it's only good to watch movies and play Solitaire. I want to add another 1 GB RAM to see if that helps. You could try downloading VLC for your media. Good luck with Win 10.

Don't laugh! My main laptop is a😱 Toshiba Satellite P875 - S7200. I can still upgrade the CPU, add an additional HDD / SSD, its runs Win 10 just fine, has a 1080p screen, and Harmon / Kardon speakers! Its a big laptop, but its worth using!

A fine project!👍👍 That laptop can handle a maximum of 4 GB., of ddr2 ram., cleaning the keyboard thoroughly may fix it and the laptop will probably work better with a Linux OS., installed, Bohdi Linux and Puppy Linux are worth trying as are LMDE 6 and LM., mate version.

Probably the F5 or F6 key that was stuck since those were listed as the 'change values' keys by the bios.
@thmUNIX8 сағат бұрын
Yep but it automatically ended up in BIOS setup after CMOS error, seems like F2 is also stuck. Maybe both of them

I have a similar Toshiba Tecra A8 from 2008 with a T7200 CPU 2GHz C2D and 4GB RAM with Win7. It's fine and is the PC I use every day. Most likely your laptop has a socketed CPU so drop in a T7200 and update to 4GB RAM and it will be fine. You can use Win7 even today and it works well. Just because it's no longer supported and no longer getting updates does not mean it's only good for the bin. I never installed any updates anyway.... this is exactly what Microsoft wants so it breaks the PC and you have to upgrade to something newer. I have another Toshiba Z30T-C (I7-6700U, 1TB m.2 SATA SSD and 16GB RAM) running Win7, from off to desktop boot-up is 4 seconds. You don't need the latest thing, just need to use your brain a bit. Start by putting on SimpleWall and blocking everything that doesn't need access to internet. You'd be very surprised to see just how many programs call home....

I used to think 80s "laptops" or "luggables" were a laugh when I seen them. Those things would break your legs. Yet here we are looking back in 2000s laptops in the same way while we have ultra thin light weight laptops like the Windows Surface line or Apple laptops.

I actually have a massive & very heavy Toshiba Satellite from 2006/2007 laying around somewhere, suffice to say this laptop looks like it's from a very similar era to that one AND it suffers from the same issue my one has - the line down the screen. My one has loads of them, in fact another one appeared a while after I acquired it second hand. I remember one day another line kept flashing on the screen, like on/off then eventually it was there permanently. I actually keep that main screen disabled on it to prevent it getting any worse but it does seem these Toshiba laptops from that era had an issue with the screens developing lines through them BUT performance wise I've found it to be a pretty good laptop for Windows XP.

I mean, not really, this is a pretty typical size and configuration for a 17" 16:10 laptop of the vintage...

I would be tempted to wait for any background tasks, updates etc to finish before running anything else, this may have led to your disappointment with the laptop's performance. I had a similar experience recently and found that Windows update was running in the background and using most of the power. I use Linux Mint on both my old laptops, a Dell Latitude with an i5-2520M and a Macbook Pro (2011) with an i5-2453M, both running SSds and 16GB of ram, lovely and smooth, may be worth a try if you fancy a tinker.

Windows 10 would be/is a dog on that machine, as you can see. Keep the SSD and install Linux Mint Cinnamon, try to upgrade the WiFi card if you can (hopefully adding Bluetooth), And add the H264ify extension; it will help on KZbin. I have a Toshiba Satellite C655D with the above mods 😀.
