"Nothing real special about it other than it was my grandfather's" - As an owner of a '61 Impala that was my grandfather's at one point, I can tell you that is EXACTLY what makes this car special. Nobody can ever take that story and that bond you will share with your grandfather and I honestly get more people impressed with that fact than anything else about my car. I love the story and the car.

I always love to hear other stories from people about their old cars. Usually it’s a father son project or something that they did with their grandfather. I came into the possession of my grandpas first Mustang about 4 years ago. It was a 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 with the 351 engine and a 4 speed. When I got that car it was in rough shape. It had no paint on it, the engine and transmission were out in the garage, and the interior was all torn out of the car. He had all of the parts to that car, but he was never able to get around to it. When I got that car the first couple of weeks, all I did was source every part and make sure that everything was there. And it was. So I went and took it to a buddies shop, where he let me work on it and store it. About 1 month later I had the body ready to go to paint. After the body got painted it was a matter of getting everything ready to go. 3 months later and the first start up of that car. It was a amazing experience to restore his Mach 1. I have painted it Grabber Blue, which was his Original color for the car. That car is now not just mine, but everyone that knew my grandfather, has drove it or rode in it. All I wish is that every time I start that car, all that happens is that my grandfather hears it, and smiles up in heaven.

@*Big Bad Wolf* sike! I love my mustang with its Inline 6, I even use to race a 2004 mustang V6 and it kept up with V8 easily with the right modifications.

@*Big Bad Wolf* In my opinion an engine is only as good as the amount of money you’re willing to throw at it for modification. There’s plenty of great 6 cylinder cars that have been better than V8s and made history such as the Nissan Skyline and Porsche 911.

Beautiful old car! We used to have a 1970 Mustang SportsRoof in Grabber Yellow. It had a 351C 4-Barrel with the 4-speed and a Hurst shifter... I miss it so. Seeing this car certainly brings back memories. Keep on keeping it clean, mate!

Sir Timothy's Piano Time thanks I had a 65 mustang in high school with a 347 stroker and a t5 transmission from a fox body. I miss that car every day. This mustang is MUCH slower but as I said this was grandpa’s so I hold this one in higher regard and wouldn’t try and dukes of hazard this one like I did with my old one every chance I had.

I love seeing the interior - my Mom had a 69 Sportsroof with a 351W 4B in the same colors - that interior is exactly how I remember it. I was about 8 when she got it and it was the first car in which I could sit in the back seat and my feet touched the floor - I remember to this day sitting in it the first time and being amazed. Unfortunately my Dad sold the car to a family friend when I was about 12 years old so I never got to drive it, but my older brother says it was a ton of fun. Enjoy it!! PS: But I do have a 2006 GT 5 speed in redfire to get my dose!

I'd say that Mustang is very special. How many bright red 69 hardtops were there? And that 302 is a great engine! I'd keep it. I really wouldn't do too much to it other than maybe a Pertronix distributor for easier starting and better running. And maybe an AOD for better highway motoring and fuel savings. Other than that, keep the rest as is, and refrain from restoring until it's truly needed.

I love that it is original engine and transmission. If you take care of it, they will last another 20 years. If you ever do rebuild, I would highly encourage rebuilding what you have and keeping it original drivetrain. rebuild the original motor for a little street performance, a good converter, maybe add a gear vendors overdrive and 373:1 gearing and you wouldn't believe the difference in performance. Anyway, thank-you for sharing. Oh BTW, I am so glad I kept my 1969 Fastback, black on black car. It was my first car and I still love it to this day.

I have this same vehicle and have never seen one just like until now. It's a special car. I just got it back running and am doing some cosmetic restoration myself. Trying to keep the whole car as close to stock as possible. Someone once told me having the original hubcaps/wheels on it was more precious than gold. Stuff like that. However, I keep running into simple stuff giving me issues. A couple guys have worked on the interior about 30 years ago. I need to do some repair on the door and quarter side windows. Problem is, when they guys worked on replacing the door panels those many years ago, I think they may have put them back in with glue or something. Have you ever replaced or removed the door panels? Do you have any insight, should be a simple job. I can't for the life of me figure out do I unscrew something? Just pop them off, etc? I don't know if the car was grande or base but I'd lean towards base. No one, and I mean no one on youtube has shown me how to do this simple thing. West coast classics has a cougar they do, but the actual panel is different. He just pops it off. Thanking you in advance.

The Grande models and some of the same era Mach ones are the only Mustangs I really like. A Grande shouldn't be loud and flashy. I like the plain ones. I like the lines of the design. They're more than enough to carry the looks of the car. It's a cool, stylish cruiser and best of all, it's still doing it's job.

about 16 years ago, my parents had found a 65 Mustang coupe in Denver, where the original owner had bought the car brand new as a 289 2V w/ top loader 4 speed and 2.80 rear gear. he originally planned it as a project car, hopping it up as a GT, etc., but he found out the hard way it would cost a lot of money. so my parents at the time (2006) wanted a car for their 2-year-old son (me) that would be The First Car, and the owner doesn't want the car anymore. so my parents found the Mustang which had hardly any rust on it; HARDLY for an original Colorado car. so they had bought it from they guy for about $2,500, brought it home, and i had the time (as a toddler) playing inside the car. the plan for that car, (theoretically) my car is to engine swap the 289 for a 331 stroker from a 302 block (just waiting for my dad to pick up the crank so that i can build my own engine for my own car), re-gear the rear axle for that power (about 400, maybe 450 with a 750 CFM Holley, Edelbrock RPM Air Gap, aftermarket heads, and a 224/232 @ .050 cam), and transform it into the GT350 equivalent to my mom's '67 Mustang called the GT500CP. go ahaid and look it up, i wont judge negative opinions. no, i cant review that car cause it's in a storage unit, and no, i cannot do my mom's car either cause it's hiding away in my garage underneath a 4-post lift, a car cover, and parts for the past 10 years; but if i could, i would.

so what i can say is, yes, classics are amazing, and no, i'm not a hater for that '69 302, but a 400 horse 351 with an AOD and that 2.79 rear gear, the overdrive would hardly kick in at all unless you're driving at about 85 MPH. advice: change that rear gear to a 3.31-3.73 or just get another 3 speed instead of using an AOD. key word ADVICE, not forcing options so that the car can have some oomph, coming from my dad who was an offroad racer, an engine builder, a boater, and a restorer of cars for over 35 years; like the Shelby GT500CP, like his own project cars. just remember, talk to the real classic car enthusiasts and engine builders so that your car can perform perfectly compared to their failures over the years, as advice.

Walking home in the early hours when I was 16 a guy in one of these pulls up and asks if I need a lift home, yes I do I replied (I didnt I was not wanting a lift but hey its a mustang) it was not the fastback and it was red with mach one along the door bottom, black leather seats, it became my favourite car and is still is today 45 years later, when I got in I asked is it fast, he floored it and said do you reckon it is . . . . wonder who he was and does he still have that car . . .

Nooooooo! Why did you guys do this to me on an already emotional day? Guys, this was my very first car I ever personally owned back in 1983 as a 16 year old. I was very lucky to have a supportive mother and back then you could find a good condition 69 coupe with 80k miles for $2300 like we did. Mine was the light green, which I hated at the time sadly and repainted her red. Mine looked exactly like this example except mine was the 351 Windsor engine and so it had the "3 5 1" badge on the fake hood scoop. I had the FMX automatic transmission but because of the 351 V8 it did have a 9 inch rearend with 273 gears. Otherwise mine was identical to this one, no AC and the only option was front disk brakes. I did end up modifying the engine and replacing the two barrel carb with a four and added a new intake, headers and cam for better performance. Wow, this really made me miss my baby. I do not want to discuss why I did not get to keep her as it was not my choice. Thank you for sharing!
