The latest update to my first frame up restoration. I run into a few snags that slow my progress. The engine will have to be removed, and the cases split to clean out the glass bead that got into the crankcase.

Good to see a loyal rider partial to KZ1000's. Had a new diamond sky blue 1000 a long, long, long time ago. Think about it always. Beautiful craftsmanship on yours.

Thank you very much. My fascination for the KZ does run deep. I still have some paint work to do before I can call this project complete. Thanks again for your interest.

Man I hate that about the glass beads falling into the bottom end. I would almost try to flush it out with minerals spirits first but if your like me you would always be worrying if you got it completely cleaned out. Good luck, it’s looking good.

I hate it too. I put a lot of effort into trying to be thorough. First, the gouged cylinder, then the glass bead in the crank case. I've already pulled it apart and cleaned it. There was less glass in the crank than I thought. I'll give it a once over and put it back together tonight. Thanks for checking out my bike.

Thanks, I can't wait to see it finished either. Spring will be here soon, I'll need to step it up if I want to be ready.

Man that really sucks, but at least you're doing it the right way and you can rest easy that way. But man is it looking great. Good luck on getting your motor back together. Are you going to put a stock style paint job on it or something custom?

Man what does it consist of to replace that sleeve? Don't you have to heat that sleeve to slide it out? And the paint and body is not so bad, that's where I usually turn on the radio and get a beverage of choice and just get lost in it. And I know as maticuless as you are you will do just fine. A buddy of mine told me when I was just getting started in it, it's just paint and filler you screw it up just sand it off and go again. Who would have thought such a diamond lurked in all that shmutz. Again it is looking awesome, keep up the good work and keep posting please. I can't wait to see the final piece of gorgeousness.

The engines back together, there was only a small amount of glass bead in the crank. I'm pretty confident I got it all out. Since I'm painting the bike and I don't know how to paint, it's going to be a single color. I don't know what that color is going to be yet.

I have a replacement stock sleeve. I was going to put the cylinders into my grill and heat it up until I could get the bad one out, but the machine shop can do it. The new cylinder will need to be bored to 72mm anyway. I'm looking forward to the body and paint work, but I'm also trying to stay focused on small sections of work so I don't become overwhelmed. I should have my cylinders back by the weekend.
