I bought a 1982 GS850G in 2017 as I was graduating college. I did a couple hundred dollars of maintenance on it, and three weeks later drove it from Maine to California. I lived out there for a few months and it was my only mode of transportation. Then I drove it home through the southern states in the spring. The ONLY thing I did was put a new rear tire and rear brake pads on in LA. From 25 degree mornings driving through Canada in September, to 105 degree days driving through Arizona in April. From +12,000 feet elevation in the rockies, to driving below sea level in Louisiana, the bike was just happy to be wheeling along. I think I'll have the bike forever.

My current bike is a ZH2; and I've owned probably 15 bikes over the years. My 79 GS 850 was one of my favorite bikes of all time. I love that you brought this bike back to new. Beautiful looking machine. Nice job.

Fantastic touring bike. Love the low center of gravity, stable handling, smooth power, light clutch/gearchange, tight transmission, and low maintenance shaft drive.

It should be it's a six bearing crank, one more than the Z1 , the only weak point is the original reg/rectifier which is easily sorted and not expensive, heavy duty reg/rec , not really an engine part , the engine certainly is bomb proof, I had an 88 model from new and kept it over 13 years toured Europe and it didn't miss a beat , the reg/rec lasted 7 years, change that and you'll have one of the most reliable bikes in the world.

Had a 1980 Suzuki 850 shaft new and rode from Morro Bay, CA to Big Sur all the time. Took 9 day vacations (2) solo up to Oregon annually. Headed to Yosemite several times. Best bike I ever owned. It was the smallest of the shaft drives yet won first place in the Shaft Shoot Out that year. (Santa Monica, CA to Florida and back --- 6 bikes 6 riders each taking an equal time on each bike).Yamaha came in second. It surprised everyone.

My first bike was an 81 gs850g. Bought it running on two cylinders knowing nothing about bikes. Came with a Vance and Hines megaphone. Less Then 10k miles on it. Those cv carb diaphragms are hell.

I like to think my Yamaha XS 650 was the baddest bike I owned-made to look like a POS but all noise and stupid speed on 🇬🇧 country roads, but the last bike, a GS850 shaft was the nicest. £1800 in 1990.

You've produced a fine example of boulevard finery, but the only way this bike looks good to me is decked out in a Vetter Windjammer (with the 8-track stereo, natch... (I'm thinkin' BTO's greatest hits)), chrome combination sissy bar/package shelf, and a handy Eclipse tank bag holdin' all th' doo-dads. Strap a jug of extra petrol on the rack and you're coverin' distance in style.

I had one of those gs1000gs shaft drive.. had an infamous motorcycle shop close to Glendale Los Feliz silverlake or wherever Los Angeles California picked it up to look at it said he had one just like it he wanted to buy it for sure just needed to look at it... wouldn't call me back wouldn't answer his phone I finally found out where the place was they're my bike was they were parting it out.. cop for some bizarre reason said there's nothing I can do about it.. I had paperwork that it was towed there for whatever reason to inspect... This particular shop was on the news as I can recall maybe more than once.. had no idea these were the culprits.. they almost wouldn't let me pick it up said I have to have the right kind of truck. Or they can't allow me to pick it up.... I just walked it down the street to my truck.. assured him it was the right kind of truck.. loaded it in began to however neighbor across the street clearly off duty police officer.. said I'll tow it if you're not out of here with that.. the world is effing crazy.
